Default Ac control issue

Pulled the center console off on the 82. The rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper. All I wanted to do was change the switches and prep the console for the double din kit coming from Al.

I find this flappy thing, that just fell out of the center air vent when I pulled the console off...

Don't know where the black wire plug goes.

What about these?

The flappy part is the blend door (also fell off my '81) due to the cheap plastic hinge. A/c will work without, but more air will always come out center vents , less on doors. You can lessen air through center vent with vent closer but it is only 2 step, 1/2 or closed due to the bi-metal switch. I say plug the a/c in and see what works.

One is purple and one is orange, and they both come off the AC solenoids.

I also noticed that a vacuum pod/actuator seems to be missing from off the bottom of the center console, that controls the center flap. I am guessing that either the orange or purple line goes to the missing pod.

Please help me....

Lol...too fast Joe Joe!

I guessed it was the blend door...the 84 parts car has one, but looks like a comb. Gotta do a bit more research here to see if I can fix this.....

Also need to see what's up with the vacuum lines....not a clue as to where those go.

elbow plugs go on vacu-electric distributor and are plugged to stop vacuum leaks. When dash/consul out it is time to change all the vacuum pots (check they work at least) It can be quite the rats nest depending on who, and how many people have been 'diagnosing' and 'fixing' things.

I seem to recall the vac pot for center is a 2 part vacuum unit (2 lines) I forget how it operated (been about 12 years since I've been in there) but it is different than most, and was hard to find a replacement. I was trying (for a time ) to figure out how to use cable instead of vacuum (like in the earlier 944's) at least for the heat.

Thanks. I'll dig into PET and see what I can find. The center console is missing from the 84 parts car, so no luck there....

Only 80-83 had this style of auto AC. So find one of those to pull parts from.

I used model airplane hinges from a hobby store to reattach the door and has worked well ever since, ~2.5 years ago.

Just drill the holes in the box and attach them. It works like a charm. You just need to remove the dashboard first

It does give you the chance to R and R the entire AC box and replace the expansion valve though

I have no idea what that black and blue connector goes to aside from some form of interior lighting. Most likely the shift plate lights.

The two vacuum lines (orange and purple) go to a special valve in the center console of 80-83 cars equipped with Auto Climate Control. Mark A at 928 international has a few used ones in stock the last time I was there.

You will also need a special micro switch to activate this valve that goes in the center console. Mark probably has some of those in stock as well as these parts have been NLA for years.

For those of us with Auto AC from 80-83, All post 1980 center consoles have provisions to put the center vent valve in if your console is toast.

You just need to rivet in the vacuum pod and install your center flap in the console, the holes and slot are already there.

I hope this info can help you fix it.

I've been through this system twice by the time I was 17. I learned about how it functions the hard way

Also, don't forget to replace the o-rings inside of the heater core while you are in there. You don't want to go back in there later.
