Default rebuilding 928 front end

I can't ignore the front end is getting old and looks to have never been serviced.
Can't aligned it with bad ball joints, tires wearing unevenly.

I'll do the work myself just like the TB and w/p I did last year. It's got 100 grand on the OD and I want to drive it more often.

Sooo what advice can you guys hit me with, I looked at the only video i can find on youtube. I might just do one myself, if I don't start cussing like a sailor.
Manuals i have.

Do you bother with replacing the upper ball or just by a complete A arm?
Is the original lower ball joints aluminum? what do you want steal?

For a complete front end rebuild kit, what did you pay for it?

Rodger is my guy for parts, "you got mail"

Thanks brothers I'll wait for your advice

Just did my whole front suspension with brakes. Alum lower ball joints have to go and be replaced with steel, but what year is your 928? If your upper/lower control arms are original, probably needs rebuilt parts from Mark/Tom from 928intl. $295/arm with separate core charge. Original boges should be changed out and Roger has them.

Here are some pics:

Aluminum on the left, steel on the right. Notice the shape of the metal bodies. Only need one replacement eccentric per side

Old brakes

Blasted then plated dichrom zinc

Upper control arm and spring-struts

Lower control arm

I am sooo jealous because you have been able to find someone that can do the yellow plating on the calipers. I tried several here in the Netherlands but the process for yellow plating here doesn't stick to the metal of the calipers. Apparantly due to environmentally reasons the cadmium plating is no longer allowed here so they do a zinc coating with some second batch to make it yellow. The zinc just will not stick to the metal from the calipers. Now I had to spray paint them with caliper paint.

Here is a good reference.

I have replaced the lower ball joints, upper A-arms (from 928Int'l and worth every penny), rebuilt the brakes, replaced the dampers (I had a shop compress the springs). I have not done the lower arm yet. Mark the eccentric before you remove the ball joints. Generally, I just followed the work shop manual procedure.
The front PS nut on the upper A-Arm is hard to get to. I used a shallow 7/8" socket on a 3' breaker bar to break it loose.

Replacing the shocks to bogies and taking out the progressive springs too.

If it's an 85, ball joints were already steel (not that replacing them isn't a good idea).
