Default Green Coolant

I was checking the expansion tank and saw pretty new green coolant in there. Do you guys recommend flushing and adding Porsche/pentosin coolant? What coolant do you use?

the green coolant will be OK,

I use Zerex Go5 coolant, its clear.
It takes 2 gallons of coolant and 2 gallons of distilled water to fill the system.

The block holds about 2.3 gallons,
the rest is in the radiator and lines and heater core

Thanks Stan, I guess I'll just leave the green stuff and worry about it when I do water pump and timing belt.

The green coolants turn acidic very quickly.

I agree with Stan, it will be fine on a temporary basis....as long as it isn't more than a year or so old.

I also use GO5 on some applications, but prefer to use the Porsche factory coolant. I know the factory coolant works perfect....and know that the GO5 should work.

Isn't GO5 still the factory pour for Mercedes? Neither one is cheap by NAPA standards, but the Mercedes stuff is easier to get your hands one. At least around here.

I've been using the G12 (now G13) coolant from VW. I have NEVER seen corrosion in a VW or Audi engine I've pulled apart. I've pulled apart quite a few (and even got a few back together, AND 1 or 2 running... )

It's in my Cayenne, GT, and obviously the Audi's.

Green coolant is not recommended in aluminum engines as it contains silicates.

Wrong as a generalized statement..
Prestone Extended Life (very alien green) contains no silicates

I have a few gallons of the OEM stuff I bought for my 996 last year, I'll just use it I guess.

Sorry, I have no idea. My specialty is a tiny little niche....I'd have to get out the owner's manual to get the hood open on a Mercedes.

LOL, I know exactly what you mean.
I have a 380SEC and it's a fun past time to watch anyone not familiar with the coupes try to open the hood. They will never find the hood release unless pointed out to them. Really a great design, but so far removed from any other car, nobody can find it.

I just want to make sure what I have in there is ok, the OEM stuff is expensive and I was saving it for the 996 but I guess I'll just use it in the 928 first.
