Default clicking under seat when trying to adjust lumbar

The power lumbar control on the driver seat failed in my 1988 S4. I assumed it was the switch so I removed it and did the contact cleaning overhaul and verified the connections all worked. I installed the repaired switch and the lumbar does not function. However, I can hear clicking when I press the switch. Sounds like a relay clicking.

Any thoughts on next steps?

I should mention this is only the in/out lumbar adjustment, the vertical adjustment works fine.

Mike,

Does your car have the memory function. Can't say on cars that don't, but on those that do there is a very complex controller under the seat, when I was refinishing my seat I took the time to go over every connector and deoxit, during the process, I found one wire that had broken right at the solder point. I don't know what feature I was missing, I didn't drive the car long enough before starting the repair, but I can certainly see this being a potential cause.
