Everyday, rain or shine and occasional snow. Being a DD makes repair/renovations a race against the clock.

In good weather, I have to decide between the M/C, 928, 944 and the Cayenne Turbo (I drive that all winter).

Decisions, decisions. The Porsche, the other Porsche, or the other Porsche.

Life is so difficult sometimes.
It's cool that with all your possibilities you still keep an old 944 around. I have fond memories of mine, it was a real warhorse, in many ways far easier than dealing with my S4. And a fun sports car feel. I miss that car sometimes.

Well...

When I got my 928, I had decided to sell it. Put it on CL, parked it at a friend's shop on a busy road and...

Nothing. The place it was parked was busy enough that it got at least one "stop and look" each day.

But it's a wreck repair that isn't perfectly straight and it has "a few" other issues. Even at $2500, it didn't move.

So After having it sit an entire summer, I decided to start driving it again. Wisconsin has "collector plates" that are permanent (no renewal fee) and insurance on it only runs about $180 a year. It really doesn't cost me much to keep it and it is a hoot to bomb around town in.

Besides, it lets me answer the "You have two Porsches?" question with:

No, I have three.

^^^^^^Ahh, I see. Mine was in quite a bit better shape than you describe, although when I sold it for $2500 it had suffered hail damage that would have cost $1600 to undo. Still one day, if finances improve, I can picture myself surprising the heck out of my wife when I buy a concourse-ready 944.

Yes, since 1993. There were about 5 years when I lived up north that it was more of a summer only car. Otherwise 928 has been my primary transport for over 20 years.

My 928 is driven about 10 days a month and is the car I take on long trips. I have a 72 240z that gets my attention about 10 days a month as well. Truth be told, a better gauge is "How many hours or miles a month" do you drive your 928?

In that respect I would say not counting the occasional long trip, about 15 hours or 940 miles.

I rotate 3 of them as dd's outside of winter months.
For winter I have an $800, sacrificial, full sized Blazer.
The rock salt and salt solutions used on the roads in this area are over-the-top.
Plus, no way the 928, even with LSD, can hang with the road speeds when roads are icy.
BTDT, doesn't work. White knuckle with the 928, leisurely,beverage-in-hand, with the Blazer.

No. From September to about the end of November I drive it on weekends. Then I store it in the garage and take advantage of the opportunity to do a few projects over winter. After the salt is washed off the roads in March I will usually bring it out again on the weekends (but I'm making slow progress on the center comb-flap actuator replacement project, so it looks more like early summer). In summer I drive it whenever I want to. I have a Subaru for the snow and rain....and cool bike for commuting on nice days.

Well, I've only got two vehicles, the '82 5 spd in my avatar and a '89 S4 5 spd. So yeah, a 928 is my daily driver. Of course, since I work out of a home office, I don't have to drive everyday....

I'm surprised (and impressed) that so many of the responses have been yes. For me, it needed to not be a daily driver so I could take the time to fix things as needed. That being said, barring horrible weather (we don't have snow, but sometimes the rain makes me long for an ark) I drive it evenings and weekends. The commute to work would be great, as it's about 30 miles of highway driving, but unfortunately, it's a lot of stop and go at rush hour, and the 5-speed is considerably less fun then. However, when school is out, the traffic gets a lot better, and I do drive it to work some then.

Well there you have it...
I think I've spotted your problem (and the difference between us).
We don't spend three months to complete an intake refresh.

But seriously, I too enjoy taking my time to perform major maintenance.
So I highly endorse the two 928 system:
Always one available to drive when taking the other one down for work.

I will confess - I wish...but sadly, she is turning into a garage queen...thus I put it up on Ebay.

Love the car...hate watching the clock.

Drove a friends 1991 911 Carrera 2 today...the 1985 928s is a far superior car...I didn't tell him this of course.

I think the right way to go is to buy a well sorted 928 and drive the hell out of it...they are simply one of the best cars ever made.

I remember snow chains on a 928s back in the winter of 88. Damn, that's nearly 30 years ago

Drove both the 90 GT and the 94 GTS as daily drivers. Found another vehicle for a ice/snow driver only after a chunk of ice came off the top of car in front of me and obliterated the belly pan on the GTS.

Found a 92 Range Rover for $800 that only needed an $8 fuse to make the brakes work, then it was in top shape. Figured for that price if someone slammed into it on slick roads, I could just laugh about it.

My elder Mom I took care off started having trouble climbing in&out so sold the Rover for $2500 and got a CayenneS with air suspension so could set it a whatever was easiest for Mom. Only paid $10K and it is a much nicer ride and very trip capable. The GTS was too low for her to get in an out of.
