Default Broken connector 1987 auto

Finally got the manifold off but not without some collateral damage. The corner of the connector for the throttle position switch broke off. The small spring wire that secures it is still intact. Is this something that I should worry about? Wouldn't want it to loosen off later on and have to do that job over again!

IMO - Clean it and re-use it - the metal retaining clip is sufficient to hold it in place. Or you can order a replacement from Roger.

John--

Take a careful look at the other connectors under there -- flappy solenoid, idle stabilizer, injectors, MAF, and the car side of the knock sensors too. Usually by the time one is crispy like that, the othrs aren't far behind. The pins come out of the old ones and slide into the new ones if the wire insulation is still intact. If not, get the right tool and replace the pins back on the wire a tad. The rubber boots get 'newed at the same time.

Get new wire harness clips for the rails, and fit up some weathestrip/insulation in the rail covers. It's the details that can be the devil.

I have lots of replacement parts for the crusty sensors etc.
What is the purpose of the foam on the fuel rails?

I had heard that the insulation was to deaden the injector noise.

Yeah, it was to deaden the injector noise so owners wouldn't think there was something wrong with the car.

The injector noise rivals valve clatter on many cars. Putting a bit of insulation/weatherstrip on the rails heps with that, plus it probably slows the engine bay heat transferring into the fuel, saving load on the AC system that's otherwise tasked with cooling the fuel. More RWHP in the end? Too small to measure. Meanwhile, Porsche thought it important enough to put insulation in there. They probably had there own reasons too. While you have it all apart, it's relatively painless to put everything back the way it was new.
