Here's the differences between the two pumps explained. The mounting boss for the idler has to be removed and the hole for the larger pivot bolt needs to be drilled and tapped larger.

Great idea Greg, that is a great solution as long as the early Laso stays available.

I recently bought Ed's guardian pump, and keeping the original tensioner (rebuilding it). Time will tell if it was a good decision, but the price point was about the same. Right now, I am very pleased. I am hoping that I can continue/service the guardian pump at the next TB change instead of buyinig a new one.

It's certainly not brain surgery, otherwise there would be a stiffer premium for the "new" pump.

You about halfway there.

Keep studying.

I have the Guardian pump and Porkentensioner.

I've done my studying already and I'm there.

Just trying to understand other ways of thinking.

God I hope so.

I had no idea so many people were on the same page as me.....stuck buying a $1000+ water pump as an only alternative.

So.....no.

Incidently, this whole process "uncovered" a few brand new factory water pumps (for '78-86) at a really crazy low price?

Anyone want a brand new Porsche plastic impeller water pump that fits a 1978-1986 model for less than $100 more than a Laso ($500)?

Or if you want a modified factory Porsche water pump, instead of a modified Laso (to fit your '87-95 vehicle), I can provide that for $575.

Only 3 available, so if you want to substitute a Factory pump (or want a early Factory pump, instead of a Laso), speak up fast!

Post here....easier to keep track of who gets these 3 pumps at a steal of a price!

Can I have the remaining '78-86 Porsche water pumps? However many you have now at this point, 1, 2, or all 3. I am planning to keep my OB 928 until I die.....(which could be next week or in 50 yrs, depending if work is going to like last night again....)
