From the barn to the streets....
Celebrating initial success in getting my new (to me) '80, 5-speed shark back near being a daily-driver. Found this puppy in a barn New Years weekend outside Atlanta where it had been for 6 years. Possible also had been vandalized with sugar/sand in the tank! Wouldn't run/start of course. The wife was not amused!
First off - a huge "Thanks!" to the Rennlist faithful who helped even a proficient backyard hack like myself get to the real problem quickly. Special thanks to Tony, Rich9928P and others who address "Starts, but won't run" and 'Injectors won't fire". After fuel system deep cleaning (TSP and boiling water in the tank), new 044 Bosch pump, filters, hoses, injector clean, rebuild and flow-test, still would only start on the cold-start injector and die.
Thanks to the Rennlist troops, and Gene Kranz ("work the problem") I eventually narrowed this issue to be a shorted tach!. Unplugged the "G" connector and it fired right up! Oh happy day! Discovered along the way this thing has an '83 S engine transplant (M28/20), and long-tube headers with a nice exhaust system, 5-speed and LSD. The neighbors are really gonna love this puppy!
Now on to the rest of the fluid changes, a new timing belt/water pump, etc. before driving it very far. Then upholstery, something besides matte black for paint....... Thanks again all!

I like to hear about saves like this one. Do post some pictures along the way. The majority of us can relate to patching-up and truly enjoying the imperfect examples. Loads of fun for me at least!

Congratulations on what sounds like a really fun find and a great save.
Where are you located in the Atlanta area?
There are quite of few others here, willing, able, and always looking to help.
Don't hesitate to ask, if you find you need some "local" assistance...
I'm confused by your reference to previous Rennlist posts and discussions.
I was interested in finding more to read about your car and your experience.
But then I noticed this was your very first post... I don't understand...

Just because he has never posted doesn't mean that he can't have benefited from reading the posts on here. It doesn't say that he was in the discussions...
I agree that we would like to know him better, and would like to see photos.

The RennList search function is an amazingly fertile resource of information.
And there is virtually (literally?) nothing that hasn't already been discussed.

Correct , it has all been said before often over and over even on topics which should have never been here I find that there is often no need for me to comment much about anything as the collective knowledge here is amazing !! frightening but amazing...

I'm an enthusiast, but certainly not an expert, like some of the truly amazing gurus here.
When I log in to research a problem, I do a search, and then I never even need to post.
A few times I thought I had discovered something really unique and rare on one of my cars.
So I log in to Rennlist thinking I'm going to start a new thread with a novel and interesting topic.
But nope, sure enough, someone else has already experienced that same obscure thing.
It is an absolutely incredible wealth of knowledge and stored database of information.
And the most fantastic members too. It is easily the best of any automobile forum on the web.
I contend it is solely responsible for LOTS of 928's still on the road, being enjoyed to their fullest.
Many many cars that otherwise would not be...
