Low mile 85 at NC Sheriff's auction 01/14
Thought maybe some locals may want to check it out, wonder what it will sell for?

I tried, but they wouldn't take phone bids. It's a 9 hour drive for me, so I just could not physically get there in time to bid in person because I didn't see Cosmo's post until this morning. I have a buddy that lives a couple of hours away from there, but he couldn't make it out there either. I wonder what it went for....I may send them a quick email or call and ask. I did run a carfax on it and it was a theft recovery.

Three Wheelin'
Somewhat of a hijack but, I don't think of my 928 as a high risk of being stolen. Am I being naive?
I mean, it's nice, but old and conspicuous.
Curious what the collective think.

In the Vegas area it is Japanese cars that are at the top of the "most stolen" list. Plus, my car has a built in theft prevention device:

Very, very rare for a 928 to be stolen..... no good market for parts and too easy to spot . Most "stolen" 928s were insurance fraud by the owners getting out from under a bad loan after a major mechanical failure. Hide it for 30 days and your insurance has to pay. Some fire claims happen for the same reason.
The number one suspect in most car thefts is the OWNER.... unless there is no insurance

I agree. I'm kicking myself for not leaving immediately this morning to try and get there. With the time zone change I might have made it. Of course it's always easy to say that hindsight and all.

Great buy for some one, how many are floating around with 40k on the clock. Maybe it will soon be on some dealer's lot for 2+ times what they paid, and may be worth that to a buyer who doesn't mind the theft title. Looks really nice, what you can see of the dash looks new.

I didn't bid, didn't win.
Here's a few cents of opinion that all may ignore of course.
the odometer is stopped with two zeros in the least significant digit columns, where they are ready to roll the next left digit in the window. The trip odo is set to 000.0 - to me, and maybe to me only this is a clear indication of broke odo gear. The pics conveniently(too convenient) leave out any engine, underside, driver bolster, or brake pedal views, but the pic of the tire shows significant road grit in the wheel well.
Although the car looks good from 15 foot grainy pics, I'm pretty sure an up-close investigation by a 928 savvy person would reveal the truth. BTW, most cars sold at police auction are not theft recovery. Because the cops rarely recover stolen stuff(including cars which are chopped), but are very effective at taking things through asset seizure . I'm about 98.6384% sure this was an asset seizure where a couple of MJ buds was found in the ashtray, or maybe one(empty) nickel bag was found under the seat of a 30YO sports car.
YMMV, don't try this at home, objects in mirror, pro driver closed course, and may cause **** leakage.
