Default Rear defrost...How effective?

Ive been driving my 86.5S through El Nino and learned that the windshield "defogger" setting works great but rear not so much. Do they work all that well to begin with? When switched on i can see a hint of clearing around the wires but only a bit. Thanks!

Are you twisting the **** for defogging, or pressing for "defrosting". Mine works pretty well for the latter, but not the former.

Check your owners manual for the particulars.
Defog is when you turn it CW.
Defrost is when you push it in.

Mine has always worked fine.

Haven't used it for a while though, lot's of rain and snow here recently so I'll try it this weekend.

To further the description:
Push it in only - Defrost to auto turn off.
Push it in and turn CW - Defrost to auto switching to Defog.

And if you should turn the key off and the engine wont shut off after the defroster/ defogger has been actuated,
turn the key back to run ,
then pull the defroster relay or the fuel pump fuse,
then turn off the key.

NOTE the defrost relay will back feed the ignition circuit if it should stick on,
Thus the engine will not shut off with the key.
NOTE since this is a relay that is not used much you should anticipate this event.

NOTE do not disconnect the battery in an attempt to shut off the engine,
this wont work and damage to the computer or charging system will result

Well the defogging is new to me. Duh, apparently I missed it in my manual. My defroster works great. How does the defogger function? Is there some airflow ?

No air flow.
Defrost vs. Defog is current flow. Defrost is fully energized for more heat to melt ice on the outside. Defog has less heat needed to inhibit condensation on the glass. Also the programmed time to auto shut off is 15 mins.
