I am planing to buy this car unfortunately the car has no original VIN number (As the car had illegal imported to the country, the custom department replaced the original VIN number with the new number. Only infomation I know is the engine number which is M28/5081R50998
I want to check whether the car is real GTS with right hand drive or not? and model year
Engine stamp should be m28/49 for 5 speed and M28/50 for automatic to verify a GTS engine block
Transmission should be G28/57 for 5 speed and G28/18 for Automatic
The car come with automatic transmission. So it would be a correct GTS engine.
Here are some pictures of the car. Is there anything from interior could identify that the car is real GTS?
Hm, Illegal imported.
This is the one listed for sale in Kaidee stating imported from UK 1995 with fully paid taxes. Thought it was something wrong when that was stated

I think it was illegal imported before, after went through the custom process many year ago, the car is fully legal now. Are you live in THAILAND?
Well, open the luggage trunk, remove the tools box (two ***** to turn), and have a look, under the carpet, on the right side, over the fuel tank.
2 minutes maybe?

As so many of the sport/luxary cars here.
Yes I live in Rayong, originally from Sweden.
Got a bit nervous when I paid my annual tax on my 928 because they first couldn't find it in the registry. Told me there was 500 cars confiscated in Bangkok due to fishy registration books. Turned out all was ok with my car (I have the original VIN numbers).
Are you selling or buying the car since it's still listed for sale?

I am not buying this car yet. Still keep looking for the other in the market. However this one got my attention for now Coz I love the original color in red.
The R in your engine number say it's a 1994 GTS (if it's the original engine).
From your engine picture I can see they removed the VIN plate behind the engine latch and they probably replaced the one at the right fender (next to window fluid filler). Your best bet will be the sticker in the boot as mentioned earlier.
Be very careful with a car with changed VIN's in Thailand now. My wife have some high ranking police friends and they advised us not to buy a car like that because it's a bit "sensitive" at the moment (you know what I mean).
The non Thai's will scream don't touch it with a fishy VIN but this been common practice in Thailand to "grey import" luxary cars. You import the car as parts then use a registration from a crashed car. Everything can (or could) be done with some tea money.
As a side note since you are looking for a GTS I find a bit strange that out of the few 928's in Thailand there's suddenly a bunch of GTS listed for sale.
At the moment we have the above Red 94 (฿1.5M).
And,
Violet Blue 93 (฿1.5M)
Black 93 (฿1.4M)
Oak Green 93 (฿3.0M)
Could be more???
I don't understand the mystery. The VIN is on the A pillar, the verticle door (on US left side, perhaps this car it is on other driver side jamb and the paper sticker under the carpet in rear hatch, there is no front luggage compartment carpet; I understand English is not your first language, but if it has been removed from all 3 locations, it could be for illegal purposes, etc. 928oc.org has a registry although I don't know about other than US cars.
It's very common for sport/luxary cars in Thailand to have VIN changed to avoid taxes at registration.
This has never been legal but accepted until now. You have a lot of "grey areas" in Thailand.
