Default Car wont start :(

Hi guys,

I have started to see this very strange issue lately. Usually after 2-3 hours after I turned off the engine, it doesnt start again.
The starter motor is working, there is a spike but car wont start. The feeling is like it is flooded but its hard for me to believe it.

After many many tries or after few hours it finally starts.
Is this something somebody came across with? Its driving me mad!

Any ideas?

sounds like bad fuel dampers. the diaphragms leak fuel in to the vacuum lines and "floods" the car. pull off the vacuum lines and smell for fuel.

Sounds like the typical leaking injectors flooding issue.

How can I tell that this is not a fuel accumulator issue?
If this indeed leaking injectors issue, is there any alternative besides buying new ones? perhaps to clean them / rebuild?

Thanks for your tips! I will run those tests and see what would be the results.
In case the problem is with the injectors, do you think that adding a K44 (or some other fuel additive) in order to clean the injectors might help?

K jet is CIS ... no dampers and everything relies on fuel pressure ... you need two pressure gauges to monitor system pressure and control pressure..do some reading on CIS

Mine didn't hold fuel pressure after resting a while and the result was what seemed the same as vapor lock - it wouldn't start for a couple hours.

There are check valves in the K-Jet designed to hold rest pressure at the top of the fuel pump, inside the fuel distributor and at the warm up regulator.

After spending thousands of dollars at Porsche and Indie mechanics to no avail, a phone call from a member of this list explained this to me and I replaced the (inexpensive) check valve at the fuel pump and the problem was forever solved!

I understand a leaky fuel accumulator could also cause this, but I have not had that problem.

I think my '78 is similar to your model.

Good luck.

I had this issue and replaced the accumulator, problem solved,
BUT i would suggest that you replace the check valve in the pump as well

I had very similar issues recently on my 80 K-jet system, although it would eventually start after prolonged attempts, albeit very lumpy and as if flooded by fuel. After asking around I was told it probably was the fuel accumulator, after searching on here, people mentioned the fuel pump check valve, and that is exactly what it was..., now when the car stands anytime after a hot shut off, it fires right up without any use of the gas pedal.

Thank you so much guys!
I will do some reading and perhaps I will start with the check valve + the fuel accumulator since my friend has one spare.

Hope this annoying and totally random issue will go away soon.

NOTE dont install a used check valve or a used accumulator.

You will need 3 new sealing washers for the check valve.

NOTE dont try to reuse the old sealing washers, they will be work hardened .

Thus the ensuing amount of tightening will crush the metal short hose end and then this will deform and require a new short line as well as 3 new sealing washers.
