Default 1985-86 euro shorty header doesn't fit just right

You guys with the 16v engines running the euro shorty headers: How are you bolting them up? Are you trying to use the factory studs or are you using bolts?

I am trying to use the factory exhaust bolts on my 1979 4.5 , but things don't line up just perfect as seen below:

The one hole is extra small, it seems. Are you guys just enlarging this one hole a bit and getting things to fit right? The manifolds seem to line up pretty close except for a few spots. It seems like enlarging the one hole might set things right. Am I right?

As for the new manifold lining up evenly over the exhaust ports, no problem there, the holes in the euro shorty manifold are considerably larger (43mm) than the 4.5 exhaust port (36mm).

Thanks

I slotted all the holes a little so that I could centre the whole header better, and make sure there was no interference with any of the studs. Euro ports are about 40 - 41mm.

I overdrilled the two center holes with a slightly larger drill bit than the existing holes on the units I've installed. Takes about 20 seconds.

Are these the same headers from an 85 and 86 5 liter? I have a pair sitting around that I bought to install on my '84 4.7 liter engine. I was told they would fit by the same guy that made the y-pipe for me. Or are the ones I have different...?

cheap headers! I wonder what the performance gain differences are.

Put the studs in first, then gaskets and then force the headers a bit. They're supposed to fit and they will.

I figure about 10 HP putting those on instead of the "lima bean" stock manifolds.
