Default Cup 2 Questions for an S4

I have just found a pair of 993.362.126.01 which are 8J ET70 for the front.

I am now looking for a pair of 993.362.128.01 which are 9J ET70 for the rear.

What spacers do I need for the rear to give adequate clearance, bearing in mind that my wheel arches are not rolled?

Is there any value in fitting a 5mm spacer to the front to bring the scrub radius back to stock?

Thanks

I think something like 15-18mm would be ok as it makes them about same as normal 5xmm ET sets. 5xmm factory or Mille Miglia sets are much easier to find. If you plan to use 70mm only at the rear it makes more sense to find 5xmm and leave 70mm to those who want to use them at front.

Looks and if rubber is wide then it can touch body on full lock. I had same wheels with 245 rubber and they needed 6mm spacers.

The usual Cup-II rear fitment for the 928 is 993.362.128.00, 9Jx17 ET55. That was factory fitment for the GTS (with spacer) and fits the S4/GT perfectly (without spacer). The 128.01 could be used with a 15mm spacer (or thereabouts) but will likely be harder to find, and won't look as nice IMO.

I think the fronts will be fine without a spacer. The factory fitment was 993.362.124.05 8.5Jx17 but a number of folks have fit the 126.01 for a bit more meat up front and they work well. That was a 993 winter wheel. Adding a 5mm spacer would likely require longer studs to get adequate thread engagement.

[Edit] Erkka is correct, larger/wider tires will change the equation. I believe that most folks fit 225/45 or 234/45 for the 8Jx17 ET70 front wheels. Paging Rob Edwards...

Thanks, that makes perfect sense except there's only 1 ET55 993.362.128.00 that I can find for sale in Europe right now, and it is twice the price of the various 993.362.128.01 that are available.

However the 993.362.128.01 are all twice the price of the 993.362.126.01 that I have just bought, so I'm going wait for something less expensive to turn up.

Thanks, much appreciated, will keep looking.

Both 8" and 9" ET70 were winter wheels only so there are much less of them around than summer ET55. All replicas are also 5x range so its abnormal than these aren't easily available.

I would be happy with replicas if they were the same weight, but I thought they were significantly heavier.

There is about 1.5kg difference. Part of the saving will be lost by using spacers.

To get an ET70 in a one piece wheel takes quite a lot of metal to support the offset. The only way such can be [comparatively] reduced would be with Mag alloy but as I am aware that never happened as it did with the 16 inch CS model.

The front is no problem and you can use a 235x45 section as Jim states. If you have a 9 inch ET70 on the rear I suspect you will need a spacer such as the 17mm spacer that the GT uses if I remember correctly but that also depends on section width that would probably be a 275?

A better bet still would have been 9 inch x ET70 all round and then you could have run with a 255 section up front.

How much of a compromise would it be to use a 235 40 17 at the front?

The reason I ask is that I can see a real advantage if I can use the same front and rear tyre sizes on both my 928 and my Cerbera. That would give me so much more flexibility in terms of moving tyres around, spares in the event of tyre failure etc.

I use a 235/45 up front with a 275/40 on the rear (as do others on the list). (Both on factory cup 1's).

In the end I followed your advice and got 9J ET55 for the rear and they cost a fortune, despite one of them having a repair.

I've put 255/40/17 AD08 on them and put them on the car tonight. I was shocked by how much heavier they felt, but when I weighed them the difference was less than I imagined. The 8J 16" Slot was 18.5kg with Rainsport fitted, the 9J 17" was 22kg with the Yokohama. (41Lbs vs 48.5Lbs)

I'm was install the CUPII wheels on my 928GT, Front: 17 x 8 ET70, Rear: 17 x 9 ET55. On rear axle, installed Eibach 18mm spacer.
