Thanks for the detail. Time to scour the web for hot wheels!

The body, the plastic "windows" and the chassis. The windows are held in place by the chassis, which is fastened to the body by posts that extend from the inside of the body shell at the front and back. The heads of posts project through holes in the chassis and are then rounded over to rivet the body shell to the chassis.

Turn the car upside down and drill out the posts just enough so you can separate the body from the chassis. Pull the body and chassis apart and prep and paint the body in the desired color. Drill two tiny holes in the "window" assembly so the holes are just inside the roof near the top of the A-pillars. Get some fine wire and thread the ends down through the holes in the "window" assembly. Use a pencil, drill bit or similar and thread it into the loop of wire projecting out of the top of the "window" assembly. Twist the free ends of the wire together and remove the pencil. Tuck the twisted wire up into the window assembly and push the loop forward until it lays on the front of the windshield. Apply thick super glue or JB weld to the body posts so the glue will hold the chassis in place. Put the window assembly back in the body, assemble the chassis to the body and clamp.

Once the glue is dry, pry the loop up off the windshield and tie a small ribbon to it to form a loop for hanging from the tree. Adjust the attitude of the car by bending the wire loop forward or back and then hang on tree.
Ahhhh... Dwayne would have added pictures to go along with his instructions to help us DIYers.

C'mon now Rick - that's CRUEL to Otto!!!

Nice work Otto, and a fabulous procedure write-up. Even without pix, it rivals Dwayne's.

Sigh. If you need pics to take apart a Hot Wheels, especially with the detailed description, then you have no business working on a 928.
