Default Cam Belt question

Hi I had my 84 s2 euro idling outside after moving it from the garage and after a few minutes there was a slight change in the sound of the car and I didn't think to much about it at the time. I then went for a drive and all seemed fine then the belt tension light came on so I carefully drove home. It has just had a new belt and was due to be retensioned so I will do this. My question is that if the belt ended up jumping a tooth would it be noticeable. Should I remove all the covers and check it all or would I know if it was out
Thanks

you can check the timing through the peak holes..... if you have to check belt tension, you can do this by removing the passenger side cover only.
