Default Front cam seal question

Bought what I hoped would stop the small oil leak out the cam covers.
Photo of the cover (upside down) on my 86 1/2 928s. Also the seal I got and the simple ring gasket (on right) that was behind the leaking seal. Tried the new seal and it leaks like a Oil derek in Santa Barbra. Did I get the wrong part. I could just clean and past the old gasket back in and i'm sure it would not leak with Permatex II but would like to replace with something new that works. Appreciate it if someone would steer me to the correct solution.

Steve,

Unless I am completely confused by the upside-down picture, there is no seal (brown thing in the left-hand Victor-Renz picture) behind that cap, that is only used where the shaft comes through to the belt sprocket on the exhaust cams.

I believe 86 engines had an o-ring to seal the cap (right-hand pic??) but that has been superseded by the sealing cap and separate arm on the later cars (928-105-215-00 cap and 928-105-205-00 arm).

Maybe a little Halomar or Drei-bond to seal the cap?

The early 32Vscame with an updated end caps too, just like the S4s. The pic shows a different part, perhaps the old caps. A bit of RTV should fix that leak.

I've never see that 'O' ring type used on a 32valve 85 and up on any of the cams.
Only the type shown on the right (brown).
There is also gasket sealer used on the end bearing caps to the head.

If it is leaking around or from the bearing seal, it is either the wrong seal or the cam's shaft is nicked.

I had a guy source his own and hand them to me, they looked right but were (924/944) and man did they leak, after that I'll never install parts I don't order myself

Default Thanks for the help

Thanks, So I gather the seal is accomplished before the cap. Can't see any seal at the cam end with the cover off. Just the domed end of the cam. Saw it was driven under the valve cover by the other cam. My caps were both moist with oil. Will use sealer and hope that will seal them. Sorry the picture was upside down of the cap. I'm, tracking down leaks and just stated with the radiator tank and heading back to that drip drip of ATF. Just love to put the car on stands to even check the ATF. Then pumping fluid up to get it in the reservoir. Bought the Automatic because I was commuting and was no fan of the sloppy shift linkage all the sticks I test drove had. Today I would prefer the stick for the fun of it.

The Cam seals(brown) go behind the Cam gears, you need to remove the gears to see them.

The "Black" caps go in front the cams that do not have gears, in the cover where it meets the head, that's why there are 4 in the back and two in the front.
