Default 1984 Headlight Motor Won't Engage

1984 Euro headlight motor won't budge. It's not jammed (you can manually crank it up easily) and the lights come on (for some reason) when you hit a certain location while cranking it up.

But, it won't engage (up or down) when the lights are turned on & off. The lights themselves turn on/off - no problem. Checked the motor in another 928 and it worked just fine. Checked the Dual Relay in another 928 and it worked as well... Kinda stumped on this one. Is there a micro-switch or something under the dash (a multi-plug or hidden ground) were missing...? Thanks in advance.

Did you check the Headlamp Motor fuse? Not sure which one it is on the Euro but for 84 US it would be fuse #19, which should be 25 amp.

There is also a relevant ground, along with others, located near the motor itself

Thanks for chiming in... Yep, we've checked the fuse (all of them actually just to be sure) and the ground, but I'll do a double-take on that since it's almost ALWAYS a ground.

Any other thoughts...? Thanks in advance.

I'd be double checking the fuse in this case, take it out and test it with a DMM - Fuse #19 as stated - but it's a 16A rating not 25A.

You can test during (what should be) operation - by probing the bottom fuse connection on #19 - you should have >12V there when the motor should be running.

If I understand this correctly, the lights work (go on and off as supposed to), the motor works (in another car) the double relay works (again in another car). Fuses are all good.

But the motor won't make the headlights go up and down in your car.

I would look at the wiring next. I'm not sure which wire is which, but I'd check for continuity between the CE panel and the plug that goes into the motor.

Thanks guys. Haven't gotten to it yet... busy installing the interior but I will this week. I'll check for voltage at the bottom of the # 19 fuse and then again at the plug. Makes sense... I'll let you know what I find. Thanks again.
