Default Filling auto gearbox through top cooler connection

Currently, the gearbox and torque converter on my '87 Auto is drained, with new filters fitted. My radiator is out, with a new 928 Motorsport radiator going in next week.

Should / shouldn't I fill the transmission and cooler through the top cooler connection before connecting it, and then adjusting the level afterwards with the motor running etc?

Keeping everything hyper clean, of course.

Thanks

Don't see it being a problem filling through the return line.
Experts to confirm.

Why not use the factory supplied quick-fill connection on the passenger side of the trans?

Sounds like he was doing radiator work up top and was already located there.
Always best to fill through the fill port though.

Why would you think that filling it the way the factory tells you to is easier any other way?

Good luck with the radiator.

I have a connector and pump to fill through the factory filler. Mainly wondered if filling it from the front, especially the cooler, may be an idea.

Sound like the answer is "No".

I hope to have luck with the radiator. Did not have any luck with the replacement end cap.

I am about to reinstall my repaired radiator also, but my transmission is not drained. I was planning to fill the cooler in the rad as suggested by 545svk and than top up at the transmission. Seems to me that would make for less air in the system and I would find an accurate level quicker.

If I filled through the radiator I would only pour in the first 4 quarts that the manual says to add before you start the car.

Then add the rest into the reservoir. You later guys are lucky to be able to use a fill port.
