Default moldy gauge cluster...

my car had been sitting in a garage for years before i brought it back to life this summer.. inside the gauge cluster i notice a bunch of mold on the bezel trim piece.. would be great if i could get to it and clean it up... any advice? how much of a hassle is it to remove the gauge cluster? looks like a lot of work..

NOTE the part your looking at already has the crinkle finish your seeing ,
If you do go into the pod,
make sure to have a new odometer gear handy to swap into the speedo.

NOTE also make sure the numerals on the rod dont have side play,
as this can jamb the gear and stop the odometer from turning,
Solution... add a thin washer to the numbers rod to reduce the side to side play.

NOTE to remove the speedo needle put a piece of sheet cardboard on the gauge face the use a fork to pry the needle off the shaft if it wont budge use soldering iron to apply a bit of heat to the joint.

NOTE ALWAYS disconnect the battery before you do any work on the pod,
IE removing the switches,
the pod housing is aluminum and the switches can ground out and fry wires in about .2 seconds as they are removed from the pod.

Not sure what year your car is and whether it's a 5-speed or Auto but I have a spare gauge cluster from my '79 if you wants non-moldy face to work from. Between the two you should be able to create a nice one. Some pics are in my Forum as (search for Spyder leftover and you should find the thread). If you send me an email to petza914@gmail.com I can send you photos.

Thanks and good luck.
