Default Very early 5 spd on Austin CL

I thought this ad was a joke, with it's single picture with the car covered up (Amazing someone would actually do that), and no meaningful info in the text, but the seller sent me a few pics and the car looks pretty nice. What was interesting was the serial#. If I'm reading it right in the picture, it's 000028 which would make it the 4th earliest on the registry if it were on the registry. The seller says it's the 3rd car that was exported to the US.

Just a heads up for those that like to track down the early cars. No affiliation.

Thanks! Hmmm....with all of the 928'ers in the Austin area in a little over a week, I wonder if someone will be going home with an extra?

An extra zero in the price.

Or I'm rich!

Not bad! Does she come with the bag or will I need one of my own?

Thanks, Don, for tracking this one down and getting the VIN. I didn't realize it from the Craiglist ad, which had no VIN, but I had entered this car in the 928 Registry back in September when it was for sale on eBay. Here's a link to the car in the Registry: http://928oc.org/registry-main/regis...8-928-u-s-0018

VIN serial number ends in 0028, but the actual production number was 0018 - so it's a very early U.S. car. There were quite a few pics in the eBay ad that I uploaded to the Registry, and the text of the ad is also under the car's "History and Maintenance" tab.

Looks like a nice example! Hope it works out for someone on here.

Thanks Jarrod. I should have known you were already on top of it. You are doing some great work with the registry and it's really appreciated.

I didn't see the car in the registry when I looked and still don't see it when I go to the main page and pick Registry/View Registry at the top. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks, Don! You should be able to see it just fine. I think the default sort will show the ROW cars first, then the US cars. Within those groups, they're sorted by production number - which is not the last four digits of the VIN. For the '78 model, we currently have some 34 ROW cars listed before the US cars begin. I have mine set to show 100 cars per page, and the subject car is near the middle of the page - production number 0018 (VIN ending 0028). Let me know if there's an issue and I'll get you in touch with one of our webmasters. Thanks again!

Just to keep the original and only Craigslist picture tied to this thread. Classic...
