Question on TB tensioner disks
I removed my timing belt tensioner to clean and refill it and on disassembly discovered a) 3 broken disks and b) that it was not correctly assembled last time around.
Here is how the disks were assembled:
The 5 on the right were "cupped" up towards the opening of the tensioner housing, all the rest were "cupped" downwards. My understanding is that they should be 5up/5down/5up...
Is it reasonable to think that the disks broke because the stack was installed improperly?
This photo is from Dwayne's TB and WP write-up... for the later version which has 35 rather than 40 disks.
So mine should look like that with another group of 5 on the bottom end. Right?
If anyone has 3 or more disks available for a reasonable price I am in the market... (I have to do a closer inspection to be sure there are none that are cracked).

Common on this Forum are people that have converted their cars the Porken tensioner...so finding a used tensioner that you can steal the discs out of should be a snap.
The "later" discs are not steel colored, but are a brass color....not sure if that was a change that was made for durability or for better heat reaction.
You will find that the boot for your early tensioner is NLA. I make a piece that will adapt a later boot onto your early tensioner. Both Roger at 928 R Us and Jim at 928 Classics carry these pieces in inventory.
