Default 89GT For sale

Was trying to check this out. As always "to good to be true". Here is the link.

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/5267082869.html

Here is the sellers response -

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in my 1989 Porsche 928 GT. The price is $11,500. It’s in perfect condition, always garaged, no known problems, everything works as it should. Title is clear.
I'm selling the car for this price because I'm a sergeant in the United States Army and I’ve been sent to Spain, Europe due to the refugees and migrants problem and I’ll stay here (in Spain) for at least 1 year, so it has to go, unfortunately.
At the moment, the car is in storage in Milwaukee WI. Let me know if you’re interested and we’ll work out the details. I'm responsible for shipping, delivery and handling to your location in any U.S. state. Of course you can choose not to buy it if you do not like it. If is not as presented, would be within your rights to refuse the deal.
I can send you more photos if you are interested.

Here is the certificate of authenticity.

Only shows Porsche do not know that '89 GT is. VIN, engine and gearbox number are all GT.

OMG someone needs to get that car before it falls into the wrong hands. That's too cheap for something that nice...it'll attract idiots.

That ad has wording very similar, but slightly different, from ads for things that are clearly cons. Always the same basic outline. Out of the country. Car in a different location. Not able to see the item. Strange wording in the ad (Who born in the US would ever use "Spain, Europe"? Also note the problem with plurals "refugees and migrants problem".....very common Asian giveaway.) Price too good to be true.

Proceed with caution!

But it's missing the payment through some totally secure organization that will refund your money if you're not totally satisfied with your purchase line.

Does that make it ligit?

Oh wait that comes on the email after you respond.

Strange how the CL add seems like it was written by someone entirely different than the email reply. I say scam.

Find out where the car is actually located, and volunteer to have a local RL "inspector" verify its existence, availability, condition, etc. Seller's local agent there should handle transaction, including all paperwork concurrent with pickup. Buyer will arrange for ther own shipping thank you.

IMHO, this has all the elements of a good scam. Has anyone checked the VIN against the registry? Or search for recent prior sales activity? Many scammers duplicate a recent for-sale offer with only location and payment methods adjusted.

It is not a scam. Sergeant Lumumba (also a member of the Nigerian Royal Family) has given me express authorization to act as his agent. I will provide interested parties with pictures of the car and arrange for a PPI by an expert mechanic (a former member of the Porsche factory race team) if you are a serious buyer. If the pictures and PPI are satisfactory, I will arrange shipping to the location of your choice. All you need to do is to arrange for a wire transfer to the Lumumba account in the Cayman islands. Once the deposit is made for the full purchase price, the car will be shipped to you. The title will be in the glove box.

Posting has now been flagged for removal, fraud detection has picked it up.

Half a dozen years ago there was a Range Rover that was the same type of scam, the key is that the ad is always in a jurisdiction where the car is not. If it had been on CL in San Francisco it would have given it more credibility however you then have to produce the car.

Interestingly on said Range Rover I was flying to the jurisdiction in which the car was said to be, and I responded to the seller that I would have a cashiers check in hand for the full asking price and would meet with his agent and save him the shipping.

Still waiting for a response.

I responded when the ad popped up. It took him a a week to respond with his email and telephone number. A GT @ 11.5 still available after a week - that was my red flag.

Yahoo I must have been the last to know.

I saw the ad yesterday, perhaps hours before CL red flag it.
Looks like post will be deleted soon.

CL poster asked for my email...gullible me emailed it back.
Below is the response....similar to what has been said earlier in this thread.

I wonder what poster gains by obtaining my gmail account.
I guess I will find out soon enough...when it gets hi-jacked.

The saga continues for me, as I search for a 928GTS or GT. Based on the asking price.
I should have know it was a scam.

"The car is in a shipping container in (insert city here)."

Yeah, suuuuure it is. That is as common a scam as the "I'm on a boat in the Pacific and I'm buying it for my (father, son, brother, ect)" scam.
