Default Cupholder solution

COKE and BUD use the same size cans, and my favored travel cup has a small bottom. So...

At Sharktoberfest I hoped to see good cupholder ideas, but most people bought the two-cup unit that slides between the console and the passenger seat. I did something else.

I removed the center cassette storage unit (4 screws only!) and disassembled it (873,201 screws). After marking the desired hole locations on the lid I drilled the two centers, flipped the lid over, and cut the leatherlike material like a pizza. Each "slice" was then folded back and taped down, leaving holes of about the right size. It was simple to cut holes into the heavy plastic lid and smooth the edges. I then untaped the pizza slices, applied contact cement, et voila!

Hopefully I'll find trim rings to professionalize the result, but it already works just fine.

shark Card revoked, keys- hand em over.

look to the top right of forum, for the "search this forum" button.
click it.
Enter cupholder or cup holder.

Ask self why cup holding would ever be a priority in a 928?

However, I'll give you props for thinking completely out of the box.

You might not love it, but it works for me and is far, far better than this:

Everything fits just right.
I'm only 5'7", and drive with the seat up high. My elbow doesn't reach that panel.

I hate what you did to "YOUR" shark; will you burn a hole in it's A** sometime soon...nonetheless, the jackA just gets the better of my senses as I feel like I've done worse things to "MY" 2 sharks over the years
You go bro!

I like the car so much that my plan is to make it a daily driver. But that means I need functionality that was unimportant to Porsche or or unavailable in 1983. So, cupholders, GPS, Bluetooth, (passive) keyless entry, alarm, tint, radar detector, etc.

The Good News is that you know exactly where to find a good replacement cassette box lid.

Meanwhile, and don't you guys blast me for encouraging infidelity... The trim piece you are looking for is a cable pass-through used on a desktop, to get the monitor cables and such down to the CPU. They come is several sizes. Just find one mall enough to hold your beer for you without spilling too much, and large enough to conceal the bomb-blast-size holes you put in the cover there.

Just my thought, but on this rare and older car parts (whether interior esthetics or 'under the hood' mechanicals) are/should be thought of as rare and not so easily/cheaply found (as a matter of respect for our vintage cars). To do an irreversible action, it needs to be well planned and be able to be supported and maintained. I have done a few outside the norm changes, but it was well planned on paper first, and all parts (even down to screws and washers) were all confirmed PRIOR to diving in.

What if you can't find rings to 'professionalize' ??
Also, you may have wanted to consider getting a taller console lid so your important beverage can be supported. They're out there.

Planning, planning, planning...

There are certainly far less destructive and completely reversible ways to do it, if that is in any way a priority for you.

I went with these: http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/index.html

Wow. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Please do enjoy your car but don't expect your current results to get loads of applause around here.

It's your car, you've made a 10 minute modification that can be fixed with $$ from 928 International. With a little reasearch, your exposure of your handiwork to people on this forum might have gone more smoothy as many here would have done a more "Pro" and ergonomic job.

BUT your screen name is a very honest one
