They do work well...Just need to make sure they're wedged in there tightly. Since none are specified for the 928, I emailed him...he said all of the ones specified for Porsches are actually the same part, and he knew people had used it up to 84 or 85. He sent me an installed pic, so I knew my '86 was the same. I don't know if the side of the center console area is different in later models though?

Besides that, this one has the right logo. And there's a special trick to it...but of course I aint tellin' until you say "Patman's 928..." well you know.
Truth is, they actually work very well. They don't hold with the stuff that comes with them though. Ya gotta put a couple of screws through the (existing) holes. As ya can see, mine are in the recessed area of the door under the light. Kinda down and kinda forward. In that position, there is clear sheet metal behind them and a couple of screws will hold firm. Also, since they are kinda recessed under the forward armrest bulge, your (my) leg doesn't ever hit it, even when resting on the LH footrest. Left and right sides match, and they have been there for over a year now with no issues. And unlike the others, it's not in the passenger's way on their side either, so nobody sacrifices cabin space. Also, with black on black carpet in my case, and resting under the armrest bulge, most folks never know they're there...so they don't distract from the Patman's "coolest 928 on the planet's" interior.
with any luck I can see being pulled over for being over the speed limit and having to explain to the occifer why my nifty cup holders has my open BUD light in it; saweet
Errrr = JAIL
Anyway - I think I'll have to drink the beer quickly as that portion of the car can get pretty warm fast
After a lot of searching, I found a retailer who still listed the VW double cup holder. It was $146 and out of stock.
Looks like I need to keep the doors locked at events now. Mine was $33 in 1998, per the purchase invoice. Seemed a little steep at the time but it is a perfect compliment to the interior. Plus no holes to drill -- it grabs the bottom of the console vanity skirt quite nicely.
IIRC, Carl offeredthem for about $75 for while, after he got all the info from it at a Sharktoberfest a long while ago.
Have you checked at a VW dealership parts counter? Or asked parts obtainers extraordinaire Roger or Tom/Mark if they can get these? All one big happy VW/Porsche/Audi/Bentley/Seat/Lambo/etc family and all.
Otis, you just inspired me! I'm not a fan of black plastic but if you take that portable holder, wrap it in leather (or vinyl) to match your interior you have a pretty cool solution that can reasonably look "natural" in the 928 cabin as opposed to screwing or sticking something to your console or doors. Thanks!

Thank you!, the vinyl actually matches better to The naked eye, the rolled hem needs work, spray glue will not hold up to the heat on hot days outside. I had to use a two part resin to glue it.
