Nice choice!! I will have to wait a while for the price to come down.

They seem to take a hell of a hit on value - sounds like the 928 - mine had a sticker over over $120k and I paid $15k with 82k miles.

My SL55 was $150k new
I bought it with 6k miles for $60k
now with 50k miles its worth about 1/2 of that and mine is still under warranty with a 0 deductible

Congrats Zane (you too Roger.) A buddy has an '04 SL55 AMG. Awesome machine indeed. I'm considering an early '90's E500 as the next addition to the fleet. Gotta get more garage space first though.

Seems lots of performance-minded 928 owners have secret stashes of other German muscle cars. Not wanting to date myself too much, but a 450SE 6.3 was on my hot list for a while way back when. Extended wheelbase sedan (a few more rear seat knee-room inches). Essentially a 396 with mechanical (functional precursor to CIS) injection. Gas was really cheap, and had to be to support mileage that seldom made it into the mid-teens. Definite sleeper with gobs of quiet torque available, a easy 125 cruiser. Limo motor in the sedan.

Nice Car Roger!-
High ends Benzes are a lot of bang for the buck.

Another great Benz is the S600 or CL 600 from the 2004- 2006 +- era. They sell in the sub 20k range. First owners really lose money- the book isn't kind to them.
Stock v12 twin turbo with gobs of torque- easily tweaked to mid 600 hp with a Kleeman ecu-

Early SL65 AMG with decent miles can be had under 50K in Europe. If I ever buy MB thats only modern one which will do.

I've got this earlier this year, and I am fairly certain that it will _not_ beat the stock market as an investment. It might beat the west coast venture capital investments, though! ;-)

S63's V8 is a better motor overall than S65's V12, so that's why I got two of the V8's and only one of the V12's... First world problems call for first world solutions.

The only reason to get the V12 in my opinion is the new trick front suspension options that don't fit with the wider V8 and the four wheel drive drivetrain. But the older V12 models didn't have that MBC option so I'd get the S63 for those years. The MBC is money, though.

6L V12 twin turbo is all that is needed. Who cares what suspension it rides.

Hard to beat the price and performance of a used CLK55 AMG, this was 70k new in 04, now its about 12k, 0-60 under 5 seconds. Like a 928 doing your own work is a must the dealers will rob you blind on repairs.

Very nice S55 Roger!

My father in-law completely embarrassed me this weekend in his 2004 CLK55. Hell even my 2009 E350 is faster than my 928.
