Pod Lighting Upgrade - Pod DRL sort of

I think most of us are challenged trying to read the cluster during the day due to the pod overhang. I would like to address that now I have LEDs working.
My BMW's aftermarket Halos are wired to go on when one of the doors is opened. I would like to do the same for the three pod illuminating lights and also have then go on when the ignition is on.
Here's the plan:
So, I have documented the number nine fuse (87-88) energizes with the ignition - so that would be how to get Pod DRLs on with the ignition. The power from the drivers side door light could provide the lights when you open the door and turn off with ignition on/ timer. My BMW uses the power to the glove box light to get the with ignition on so I could do the same thing.
I have looked at the schematics and I found the wire that supplies power the pod lights. I was thinking about connecting that to the two power sources above.
I also think I could connect that to the pod dimmer. Applying to the dimmer would light the light the other lights like A/C head and the clock, too. The advantage is I could still use the dimmer functionality.
Anybody ever done this? Comments?

Porsche did it on all digidash cars.
It cannot be as simple as you imply. Taking a simplistic approach will screw up the interior lights too.
You will need to feed from those dual sources via diodes and you will lose variable brightness at night.
I'd suggest instead diode feeds from whatever sources you want to the 58 connection - this will illuminate all instrument lights at the variable illumination setting and maintain adjustability.
Porsche's digidash model was ~full brightness pod lights with ignition on and lights off (actually controlled by photo-cell in the top of the pod face - dims under darker conditions) and potentiometer variable (but not photo-cell variable) with the lights on.
