MORE QUESTIONS REGARDING MY '83
1. How can I determine whether there is an installed security system? (I see no visible evidence)
2. Who makes a suitable alarm + keyless entry system, preferably with pushbutton start?
3. How do I service - or replace - the viscous coupling driving my engine fan?
4. PS seems stiffer than on any other car. Normal?
And the big ones for this 33 year old car with an uncertain service history.
Should I drain, flush, and replace brake and steering fluids?
Replace lines?
What about the (auto) transmission?

Fan, if you can spin it by hand with the engine OFF, and in it spins while the engine is running, it's fine.
PS is firm compared to most other vehicles, even my semi steers easier than my 928.
DO NOT think about installing an aftermarket alarm system.
VERY nice car, I wish you the best with it!

Alarm, factory alarm system is integrated into the ignition, the long keys are the ones for factory alarm systems. To test it, lock the car with The drivers window down, then reach in and open the door.

My fan was all but empty..it spun by hand, and spun while the engine was on.
But didnt lock in when hot..as it should.

Great looking car! I've been an owner for a year. I* am not good enough at 928 DIY to answer your questions, but I know you will find an answer to every one of them on this site if you do a search here. I've heard about every issue you mention since coming here.
My car was a 1981 that only had 12,150 miles on it when bought 13 months ago. I've had to do a fair amount of work on it since. Big hint: almost all of it had to do with rubber parts. If you are doing this DIY, my guess is that you should start by replacing everything rubber. As you'll find as you read more here, these cars are also prone to electric system problems that are often fixed by just cleaning the connections of any corrosion.
I have also learned two good things. 928s are fun to drive on the twisties. 928s are incredi8ble Interstate cruisers. Be sure to try both as soon as you can.

.define spin..
With the engine off, you should be able to turn the fan by hand, it will have some resistance, it should not spin like a pinwheel.
With the engine running, it should always turn, but if the fan we're to be obstructed by an object, like the radiator, or The fan shroud, or a hand, it should stop turning.

Yes, you can turn it by hand, but it should stop once you let go..no more than an inch or two of free movement. It's enough slip that as the engine speed changes its not locked to it.
But when the clutch gets HOT, it'll lock rather well.

This...
No car thief in his right mind would try to steal one of these cars...especially...since they'd probably have to jump start it prior to leaving the scene of the crime...lol.
Great looking ride. Do you have any picture from under the hood and spare tire area?
Congratulation.
