Now Kibort does know something about crashing 928s on track....two down thus far Oh right not really his fault ......imagine that
Thats a cheap shot Jim.... that poor retarded Honda driver that lost control of his car in front of the Holbert racer, and came shoothing across the track, had no idea what hit him! It was like someone running a red light.... all i could have done was see him, know he is a hazzard and slowed down. you dont expect to see that kind of incompitance on the track.
The first one... all mine.... every racer has at least one crash that has been his fault! Even Mark A has had his share of crashes, none his fault either. (I lost track after lasVegas speedvision WCGT.... )

Now, jim, its not perfect, but folks focus on the car , rather than the nut behind the wheel.... i can tell you after running/instructing with a ton of drivers, there are so many things that they do, that we teach them NOT to do, that helps not only be faster , but safe the car.... if you want to build a bumper car that any knumb nut can drive, KNOCK YOURSLF OUT. But its going to cost you .... a LOT! and still won't be bullet proof! But, im hear to tell you that if some things are paid attention too, you or anyone can run the stock transmission and engine in a 928 and race it.
you watcht the videos on you tube.. Its not rocket science here Jim... you miss a shift and the engine blows.. sure , put on those titainem retainer rings and it might not happen next time. you dont pre rev (match rev) your engine, and downshift from 4 to 3rd and you can break short shafts.. .(simple math here jim) (or clutches or 5th gear input shafts and maybe even hurt the motor!)
many question it, dont understand it, so they mock it.. which one are YOU?

now, if an engine cant take redline, forget it. if it cant take 75% of redline turning a high g turn for 5-8 seconds, forget it.
if the tranmission cant handle a 1st rolling launch.... forget it. if it can, it can road raced with no mechanical issues. how long, depends on a few other factors. the porsche stuff is so well designed, it should last more than a bunch of racing seasons. Metal fatiques Jim... the more you max out its capability, the sooner it will fail. Good racers understand this and can be as fast as the fastest , and dont hurt the car as much.

Jim, do you not pay attention to all the hype of why the DE guys are boiling brakes and need a big brake system? same concepts yet all of my racer buds have raced 1/2 the performance equiped cars to much faster lap times? How is that possible? and have NO issues?

How does a body builder swing golf club as hard as he can, hit the ball and it doesnt go anywhere???? Like Golf, or any other technical sport, Racing is a sport Jim ... technique is everything!

Mark - I hit 2.0 lateral G's quite often and have peaked at 2.3 G's. Once I get this transmission dialed in, I expect to be back doing those kind of numbers again.

I do so much development work, the car doesn't sit still often. This whole summer was pretty neat for us because we could finally stay in a single setup (not going to any Pikes peak or Bonneville thing) and just debug it. Made a lot of improvements. Looking forward to next year...

Carl, you can see the Gs you are applying to the car in the race, its pretty normal stuff... all cars on DOTs will see the same peak and, near sustained g's. the difference is how long and when you use them .
its tire and set up related and i dont think your car is optimize for its maximum g holding capability yet. peak numbers dont really mean much and more important, the equip to measure those g forces.
Im sure you hit those levels at some point in the races, and so did the GTS3 BMWs you were rallying with. if you were 10 seconds faster than the BMWs, you would have sustained longer periods of high g loading. (along with the HP advantage) Its possible.. and nothing you saw or see is different than what i see on my car. (expept the acceleration g loading) We use the same tires, generally. any car running similar lap times will see those same g forces. I actually use larger stickier tires sometimes and, i have seen no issues with the stock components. nothing wrong with making them tougher though. but as they are, they can last a good long time.
