Default Electrical problems 1985 928 S 5 speed

Hello guys It's me again with some more interesting tales of woe.. I will start at the beginning I installed my dash cluster and started the car went to shut it off and it would not shut off. intensionaly stalled it and tried again same thing.. I recharged the battery thinking it might be a low batt. and got nothing from the key just dash lights , Ordered a new key sw. thinking that the Aftermarket STB on me.. pulled the sw plug and tried new sw. still nothing same thing ,, then noticed the plug was coming apart trying to remove the plug from the sw it came all apart now I cannot figure where all the wires go i have 10 holes in the plug and 9 wires I do know the big red one's go on # 30 that's all , Roger 928's R US (great Man) sent me a diagram but i am not that great at decoding it.. I am thinking that was my orig prob loose connections on the sw. I Need so help with this getting so fustrated.. can anyone send me a pix of the sw back so i can see where all the wires go? or tell me which one is blank

first the original issue is due to the rear defroster being actuated ,
and then the key being turned off .
NOTE the defroster has two operating modes.

with the switch off , pushing the **** will turn on a timed power sequence ,
after about 4 mins the defrost shuts off.

the other mode is to turn the **** CW 1 click,
this will run the defroster till it is returned to the off position

NOTE this will rerout power to the ignition system and thus the engine wont stop.
the fix is to pull the defroster relay,
then turn off the key.

Alan might be along to assist you with a wire digram

Well I think I have the key sw plug problem fixed , But the starter still will not engage.. I opened up the 12 pin conn and jumped # 14 pin the the jump post and got very little spark I can almost hear the sol cllicking , the Batt has a full charge.. The starter was changed with a rebuilt one from Autozone when I bought the car last March. 0 miles on it.

verify the correct position of the pins in the ig switch,
test the starter by applying 12V to the yellow wire in the engine side of the 14 pin connector ,
make sure the trans is in park or neutral before testing this

Yes, I did that Roger told me to touch the # 14 wire to the charging post that would energize the starter but I only got a weak spark slight clic on the starter sol. the only wire I still have to double ck is the Gray wire to pin "p" the others went back in easily . I removed the rear def relay as well.

make sure you have a good ground strap and that the ends are clean as well as cleaning all of the battery connections

Yes I did that and made sure batt was fully charged. everything energizes when I turn the key sw but when I go to the start pos I get nothing. I am going to try to get it on a lift this weekend weather permitting and ck the starter conn. The start of the problems as I stated was when I finished the dash pod install, I must have turned the rear def on and when I started the car, when I tried to shut it off it would not turn off ,( I did not know the fix) I stalled the car to shut down, And restarted and it still would not turn off I stalled it again and then tried it again and then it just cranked ,No start. then it seemed like the batt was getting weak and I removed it and charged it reinstalled the batt and now I get Nothing in start mode .

yes and in between you had all of the wires fall out of the back of the ignition switch.

I would send a PM to Alan and ask for guidance to reverify your work,
and the position of the wires.

NOTE posting a few pictures of your work will quickly aid in others being able to assist you with the correct information.
NOTE it will cost you 18.00 to be able to post pictures ,
but that may be less expensive than hiring a tow truck and then going to the shop

Found the problem, My New rebuilt aftermarket starter STB on me. the braided wire going from starter to sol. burnt off .. I could hardly see it until I removed the starter.. was not the key sw all. It caused very low voltage to the starter though weird acting like a dead battery..

Update, I installed new starter went to start car Nothing.. I turned ig key to on and jumped # 14 wire on connector in engine compartment to Pos post and engine started . it will shut down with key but still will not start. While running I noticed I have No gauges at all no tach nothing. I am going to drop the pod again. and double ck the wires going to the sw. and also see if I get 12 volts to the starter relay when in that position.. Getting really fustrated.

Yes, several of us have a lot of experience casting out electrical demons on the mid year cars.

Sounds like ignition switch, but it would be best if you could post pics of fusebox and of wiring near it, plus engine compartment.
