Default Cut wires behind center consule

In addition to my mysterious vacuum line, I also have mysterious cut wires here.

These are thin red, normal red and normal brown.

The thin red has continuous power to it.

They emerge from the same harness by the central locking control.

Any ideas?

The odd thing is that everything work(ed) before I started.

Down by the left window switch connector there are three thick red wires poking through the wrapping that also appear cut.

These things will bother me now I know they are there, so any help appreciated.

Thanks

RHD, upside down and backwards. Is the power harness to your radio still attached to a radio? If not, I'd guess switched and constant power to radio, and its ground.

^^At least the car is still right side up Also thought radio as mine is re-wired. But the red has no power, and I think the radio constant should be yellow.

The higher gauge red is constant, the smaller one is switched with the ignition. The brown is ground

Just a guess without a wiring diagram handy - but could be the harness wiring for the relays? (seatbelt chime etc. found on US cars) - IIRC my S4's have the relay sockets in there too.

This is my go-to thread when I'm doing radio work on my car. Details out the wires nicely.

Just a stab in the dark but the cigarette lighter has a ground (brown) and two reds one larger than the other.

On my 82, the only things in there that took 3 wires that I remember were the clock and ash tray,
But both of those had a black and blue wire for power.

The Black/Blue wires are often outside the power/ground line harnesses - they are the illumination wires off the rheostat for pod switches and center console items.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of all of that would you? My '82 wiring is a mess back there...

Steve - I did a massive cleanup and the wires in my '82 a bit earlier this year. If you are ever in/near Lisle, swing by and I'll show you.

The Ashtray wires are on the PS side, coming up behind the sound deadening material on the floor.

I talked about this a bit in my thread here, and the cig bundle is the one at the flat/non-pointy end of the red arrow.

My error.
The cigarette lighter has 2 Browns, one larger than the other. Not 2 Reds.

I may take you up on that. Thanks!

Is the ashtray wiring part of the instrument cluster circuit or does it have it's own fuse?

Hi, thanks for all the input. It look like it was the original radio power feed, but for some reason the main red wire was cut, and a new one spliced in at the fuse holder.
