I have too many wheels some of them need to go. Help me figure out which ones to keep and which ones to sell off.
These are some ROH 17" wheels that came on the car. They look better in person. The looks go well with the loud straight pipe exhaust. But they are heavy at 22/25 lbs.
The car came with freshly refinished slotted manhole covers and new tires. These definitively return the car back to sophisticated lines. They are light and strong. I love the rear wheels but the fronts look quite plain.
I picked up some 993 wheels They definitively look at home on the 928 just as much on a 993. I think the front end is not quite settled yet form the tire change. The nice thing about the 993 wheels is that they are reasonable lighter and the shallower offset gives a little better track.
Here is a gratuitous motor shot with all kinds of color coordinated stuff in there done by the previous owner
I'd appreciate your thoughts and thanks in advance!
Keep the Cup II! The ROH look pretty good but not as good as the Cups, plus, as you say, they're heavy. Those manhole wheels do look pretty good on your car, but they're 16", supposedly hard to get tires for them, and don't look as good as the Cups. My opinion, and I might be biased
Your problem isn't with the amount of tires you own...
It's with the amount of 928's you own.
Buy another car, problem partially solved, buy another and you are good to go. Granted, you'd have to buy the next two without rims and tires...or you'd still have a problem...lol.
I guess a lot depends on your age. I'm in my fifties, but don't look it...more like my sixties...anyhow...wanting more of the traditional look with a bit of bling on the black car, had the paltinum seven slots originally, so I went with the polished version of the seven slots. Dresses it up a bit, but doesn't go overboard and look like something a young kid would have.
The red 78 came with two sets of rims and tires, the ones pictured and a set of platinum seven slots. Which, neither are correct for the car. So, phone dials are in its furture. That is...if I can ever get any locally. The last four sets I've found in the midwest have been sold within days...and I'm always late to the party. My wife likes the rims that are on it now, so I will keep those to appease her...or...would it be unrealistic to start looking for another 928?
It would be useful if you can indicate the wheel offsets. I do not recommend any wheel for the 928 unless its offset is at or close to the correct front offset.
In my previous post I mentioned...it depends on your age...and that really isn't the case. It's more about what your desires are, sofisitcated or terrorising the street look.
Old red gives the appearance that we could terrorise the streets if need be.
Old blacky gives me the option of...lets go out to dinner or for a nice relaxing ride.
Plus, if you have two cars...it allows you to look out your second store window on wash day and see your dynamic duo, providing you have a second store...if not...moving is not out of the question I hope...lol. Oh, and after awhile your wife will quit asking you about "why are you hanging out of the second store window with my tablet"...too.
And to answer your question...I'd sell everything except for the seven slots...then buy a nice polished set of staggered seven slots to dress her up some. Unless you could polish the existing seven slots?
I would keep the manholes, regardless of what other wheels I liked on the car. The next owner will want them, along with other original parts. Keep whatever tires are on them, too, though I doubt they'll become entirely unavailable.
My 1984 928S came with a set of Itali chrome turbo twist 17". Ive enjoyed them as I did not like the look of the stock 16" manhole rims that came with my car stock. A few months ago I hit a chunk of metal on the freeway and took out a rear rim. I replaced the set with a set of factory chromed 18" turbo twists off a 1999 996 C4. They fill the wheel wells all the way to the limit without touching but the ride is rougher. SO.... I found a replacement rim and tire for my 17" Itali rims. Two sets are not bad. 3.... Depends if I can hide the 17" set long enough to rationalize needing another set.... HMMMM get another car..... Nice idea.....
