Default help identifying some PO presents.

Ok just did an intake refresh and now im going through the grounds etc. ill probably start a new thread about that but in the meantime came across a few odd things.

The first pic is of a harness that was electrical taped and sitting on the passenger side lower dash shelf. It has two connections as you can see and one of them is jumpered... didnt see anything around or behind the fuse panel that was obvious so figured id ask.

The second pic is obviously by the battery post. Theres a green wire with a single spade connection. Again, nothing obvious to plug it into.

And btw all my grounds looked great until i pulled them off and they crumbled in my hands... its nice the dealer can still source all of them for fairly cheap!

The 1st pic looks like the old anti theft alarm module has been removed and the fuel pump immobiliser section has been jumpered. This is normal as the old alarms will eventually fail and leave you stranded, and the fuel pump will not run without the jumper wire.

The other picture looks like the connection to the compressor. It signals the clutch for the compressor to get energized.

It's funny but I just came across the exact same thing in your first picture. I posted the same question in another thread and no one ever figured it out. Good to know!

obviously those were too easy! Heres two more that i found today!

Both are in the rear of the hatch area just under the rear wiper motor... Im not sure what the 4 prong oblong plug (with 3 wires) should go to and also that relay.

Thanks everyone for helping me out!

A/C connector was ID'd in one of Ken's posts as an unused connection absent the two package, wherein it triggered aux fan based on trans temp. or something like that. But it wasn't the main compressor incitor.

Second wire bundle- appears that your remote hatch release motor is absent, so I'm betting that is the wire harness for it. I expect the PO derived immense satisfaction removing the motor, indulging in a big wind up, and whipping it against a more solid object meeting the fate that many feel it deserves.

Connector by jump post is one part of the towing package for automatics.

A temp switch, which replaces the plug below, turns on the electric fan according to the trans cooler temp by going to ground.

The connector under the hatch latch is certainly for the electric hatch opener. Since I assume you still have the mechanics in place for the hatch opener you could install a VW opener instead if you wanted a reliable means of opening the hatch - search for details on this. I would not reinstall the hatch motor - its absence indeed suggests it wasn't working right anyway.

The relay is stock, and is a 3 wipe delay relay for the rear wiper, you can replace it with a generic Bosch style SPST/SPDT to get 1 wipe functionality.

Note that the battery ground strap (to the wingnut) is not original, the original style is a black plastic sheathed flat braid, I'm not sure if the wingnut is stock either - I don't recall exactly how they look, my MY doesn't have one - but that doesn't look quite right to me... anyone?

Wing nut looks right, but the cylindrical cable does not.

Wingnut looks right to me. Ground cable is aftermarket.
