1989 928 S4 5spd - project for sale
Screw it, rebuilding it. Putting it in the workshop as soon as we finish the front end on the W123.
Thanks for the interest and replies. Sorry for anyone who found it late that I didn't get back to.

The 5 speed 928 S4/GT's are getting rare and pricey it seems. I am surprised that it hasn't sold. Could be the "rebuilt" title scares people away, but what the heck do I know?! LOL.
Good Luck With the Sale.

Yeah, I didn't think it was too out of line, and was prepared to wait a while. This wasn't an impatience price drop but a reaction to that dove blue one listed for nearly my price with really nice paint and no title issues.

Yeah, that dove blue project looks like a great deal for someone ready to put the interior back together. It's an automatic though. (Not a knock against AT, just a different value point)
I just bought a 90 GT locally for 8700. It is a project like yours. I probably overpaid. So, at 5900, I think you are in the ball park. Worse comes to worse, you store it another season.

Its definitely the rebuilt title scaring people away. I bought '89 with a rebuilt title only because it was a 7 out of 10 on the interior and was a non-sunroof 5 speed manual and I really wanted an S4. I paid a lot less than what you are asking. A lot. Mine needs a timing belt and a new paint job but its overall a sound car. GLWS.

Given she need Engine work/leaks, Paint job and Interior And w/o a clean title, IMO 6k is way high.
If one of the major three things (engine, paint, interior) were good than yes, priced right.
JMO.

Your's needs a new paint job ($8000), a full interior refresh ($3000 to $4000), and some miscellaneous engine work ($1000). So on the high end whoever buys it that wants to make it nice has to invest around $13,000 just to make her pretty. That is probably just the beginning of the investment for such a car. All of that on top of a rebuilt chassis which I think kills the value by half.
I paid what I thought the car would be minimally worth in parts if for some reason it didn't pan out.
You may actually be able to make more money by selling it piece by piece. If you do decide to go that route please put me at the top of the list to purchase your instrument cluster : )

Who in the world would spend $8k to paint a rebuilt title car? I mean, sure I'm banking on a strong 928 market of late, but no one is that crazy.
Spend enough for a 10-footer paint job, send a few more checks to our supplier friends to tidy up the leaks, get a dash mat and a seat bottom and you've got a really well behaved driver for under five figures.
Like all rescue 928's it's going to be an ongoing project. I'm upfront with that and am trying to list it "warts and all" so that the eventual buyer knows exactly what they're getting into.
If someone wants a car to invest $20k in... please do not buy this car! There are better starting points if you've got the desire to put that much money into a 928.

Glad that others have noticed my car for sale.
You shouldn't be worried about the pricing of my car. I just bumped it up a little as I am beginning the interior install this weekend since I have all of the last missing parts here now.
I am still asking 4K lower than NADA knowing that the TB/WP needs to be completed. Should be priced about right.
Good luck with your sale!

That 89 might also be a good track candidate.
