You also need to wear a real racing helmet if you spend much time driving on the streets because if you get rear ended and the seat collapses your head hits the bar.... I think Don Hanson learned that one the hard way after an open road race.

I have the Devek version of this AutoPower roll bar, along with a Corbeau seat, six point Schroth belts, & Hans device in my '85 for DEs. I put larger extra steel plates on both sides of the front mounting plate to help ensure its well mounted on the car; the rear of the Devek version attaches to the shock mounts & not the side quarter panels.
No one has said squat about it. I have trouble believing I'd be safer having my 928 in stock form with the stock seats, stock belts & no bar for a DE. What does the bar do that would cause the car to be more unsafe? If a crash caused the A pillar to collapse with the bar, wouldn't it collapse without it? And if the A pillar collapsed in a roll over with my Corbeau seat that has a rigid back that would not collapse backwards, wouldn't I be in a more unsafe position than if I had the roll bar to help keep the rest of the roof & C pillar from collapsing?
I realize the bar makes the frame somewhat more stiff, but all else being equal how does that make the 928 more unsafe in a DE environment? Would I be safer to remove the roll bar & put my stock seats & belts back in? With this bar being available for 928s for at least a dozen years, besides every other model of car out there being driven at DEs that AutoPower makes them for, you'd think at this point there would have been some incidents of a problem at a DE from this bar being unsafe in a crash. Maybe there has been & I'm just unaware as I haven't searched for any data either.
Speedtoys, I know you are the NASA guru, and I give you much respect for your knowledge & experience. But please provide more basis for your position on this bar for DE use, not racing? You mention the dead 20 yr old you had to cut out of his car due to his variety of unsafe add on's to his car. I'd assume this was not a sanctioned race & was at a DE type of event? Was one of his car's add on's a street bar, or the main reason for his death a street bar? More clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I feel bad for the OP his for sale thread has been trashed by all this controversy regarding his roll bar. It's advertised as a street bar that's it, that's all. If it's not for you don't buy it....

Not a roll bar.
You should feel bad..confusing safety equipment for not safety equipment.
Seriously...there is an actual difference. The OP was very clear it is a street bar, and I'm helping potential buyers not buy the wrong tool for the wrong job.
If you're NOT planning to track your car, go for it. If you are...you could be buying into some hassle.
I feel no guilt for this.
Are you for or against being safe in a track environment?

The OP is selling a street bar.
It has no forward support or halo.
The A pillars would not be supported by it.
Does that help?
Legally, for if something happens, DOT approved = safe, and SFI/FIA = Safe.
There is a reason safety equipment comes with certifications..because they are certified to be better for you.
This isn't me folks, this is safety, and it's annoying to find a wonderful community argue against it because "they know" better than the experts that set the standards.
Dont get fussy at -me- trying to help a future soul out.

This roll bar will give your street car a performance look and style.

Bolt-In Roll Cage
Designed to quickly and easily transform your street car into a race legal competition car. This cage is approved by SCCA and NASA for open road racing and drifting events. The best fitting pre-fab cage you can buy.
-----
Anyone else catch the not so subtle difference and warning as to what is race legal, and when I mention to be aware that some org's wont allow a fake race bar onto a real race track...
I'm the bad guy?
I'm not feeling sorry at all, if I helped someone out in their track build be safer in it.
Street bars look good, but they are not called roll cages by the manufacturer for a damned good reason.
The OP should be able to sell this..to someone wanting it for the right reasons.

I'm still confused and would like Speedtoys to clarify.
This harness bar is perfectly legal at every DE I've ever attended (included PCA & NASA):
https://rennlist.com/forums/parts-ma...rness-bar.html
But the "street" rollbar in this thread would not be? Why?

Someone is trying to be "too smart."
Any event that accepts stock seats and belts is going to accept that bar.
Do any racing organizations accept just a roll-bar anymore?

Looking at the Autopower web site, mine is the Devek version of the Autopower Race Roll Bar.
Per the Autopower web site: "The race roll bar is designed for solo, autocross and high speed time trials. All Race roll bars have a diagonal cross brace and most have a harness mount tube." So I'll keep mine in place for DE & AX use & feel more safe than without it. Interesting their description of its intended use is redundant as it says "solo, autocross, and high speed time trials." Isn't Solo just the SCCA's term for Autocross.
