928 option delete parts
I've been reducing the clutter on my car this past year, trying to reduce the weight.
For example, I ditched the central warning system, only jumpering the important lights to work.
Who needs a oil level light! Or a brake pad sensor, please! Doesn't anyone check out their cars, even occasionally?
Here's the point though, I found in the parts list a delete cover for the oil level sensor. It turned out to be stocked! At 5 bucks, it was cheaper than fabbing it.
Cover: part# 928 101 204 00
Gasket: part# 928 606 213 03
Has anyone else found any obscure part numbers for delete parts?
(Like an early radio delete plate, I'd really like one of those!)

Perhaps I should make this more broad to include...
What parts have you made to facilitate removal of options?
Example: If you want to remove the brake light brain, there was a factory jumper to replace it, but I made one:
This connector is found on 80's Mercedes (easily found in the U-pull junkyards), a 12 pin I got from under the dash, on the passenger side. The pins are soldered so it is easy to rewire these. (Made the lights a bit brighter too?) Note that different years had different brains, so check your wiring diagrams! (This is for 81)
Another: If you want just one wipe on the rear wiper, substitute a plain horn/etc. relay in place of the fancy 3 wipe rear wiper relay.
I'll try and think of some more...

The whole oil level delet is a bit risky, don't you think? What if you get a massive oil leak, but its only fast enough to run your bearing into the crank, but not tell you its leaking?

2 gallons of oil; big leak!
I'd bet that most people's sensor is DOA anyway... Except John..'s!
This isn't really an option but I don't see why the race cars have 'em:

My oil level indicator on my '94 GTS has lately been giving false warnings. I haven't looked around in the manuals yet. Where is the sensor located? Any suggestions on what to look for?

i wanted to remove the rusted-through exhaust test pipes. PET shows a cap to plug the holes where the pipes attach to the manifolds, but no one could get them.
so i pulled the pipes off and removed the nuts from them. then i trimmed a couple pennies to fit in the nuts. instant caps! work great...

HEY PORKEN.
How did you remove the central warning system? I need to rip that thing out. I think its causing part of the dash to not work in the 78.

I pulled the air injection tubing and cruise control. The air pump delete is rare.
Fixed the oil level sender as for a few ounces the info is priceless. It'll go off when it's a couple of quarts low.

The problem Glen is that its almost a double warning. I WANT the light on the dash to go off, but I do not need the complexity in this car of the other warning system. Its raining today so I won't be out in the car much. More engine work today.

Brendan,
I used small flat bladed terminals to jumper the lights I cared about. Oil pressure, gas level, over temp, parking brake, low voltage.
I don't recall the terminal size, but they were small, and I still had to file them a bit to fit.
See page 97-17 for '78 Central Warning Unit.

'78 Central Warning key
I took out the box.
Look at the numbers, compare them to the box or the harness connector (I don't recall which). Take the input from say the parking brake, and connect it to the output to the PARKING BRAKE lamp.
Most, if not all of the inputs are open, unless activated, and then they are grounded. The idiot lamps need a ground to light. Check the wiring diagram, though!
There are two connectors, but each function jumpers on the same plug.
Seems obvious, but remember the harness and box connectors are mirror images.

Part #928.552.270.04 and still shows as a valid part number. Doesn't mean that they will come in if I order one for you, but I would be happy to try get it for you. Cost is $8.19
If you want to order one, that part number is in "The 928 Parts Zone" on our website. Search for "92855227004" and you will find it. If you decide to order it, it doesn't cost you anything if it doesn't come in from Porsche and or if it comes back with the dreaded "NLA" (No Longer Available).
