Default Question about rims

I'm looking to carry a full size spare for an upcoming cross country trip. The previous owner eliminated the back seats and made it into a full hatchback, relocating the battery box where the mini spare was kept. So I do have the room for luggage and the spare tie. There are also two hidden compartments for jumper cables, tools, etc.

I've sen a few used rims on ebay and they are all Phone Dials, that are 7J x 15 rims with a 5 x 130 bolt pattern. I've seen part # 928.361.019.00 mentioned in several of the ads. I'm currently running Victor Equiptment Innsbruck RF 18" wheels and not sure of the off-set as again the PO put these on and I love the look, handling, and compliments.

All I want is a spare in case of emergency as I'm planning on a lot of back roads with some freeway. Do you think this will work or should I just stick with my bottle of Green Slime? Thanks.

I carry a full size spare also on long trips. I use a 7X16 stock 928 rim with the stock diameter 225x16 tire. Puts the diameter of the whole thing at 25". That way I can use the tire on every corner of the car if needed. I would be more concerned with a spare that has the same rolling diameter as the normal tire/rim combination you are running.

BTW I think there are a couple stock 7X16 flat dish style wheels in the yard at my house over at Lake Powell. Your welcome to one if you want to make the ride over. About 150 miles from St George. Let me know

I always thought a full spare (even the small ones) are over kill given the quality of today's tires.

Unless you are running on old tires, just bring along a Green Slime kit that comes w/ a small compressor, will handle any small punctures and cove more than one tire as can happen when you run over something at speed (two flats on the same side). Anything bigger than that I call Hagerty or AAA. If you are going to lug along a spare, bring a trash bag for the old dirty road tire.

Most new cars have a sealing kit and no spare tire.

If you have four piston calipers up front the phone dials may not fit over the calipers without some spacers. If I recall correctly the diameter is okay, but the wheels don't have enough concave bend so the backs of the rim rub on the face of the calipers.
