Default Never ending supply of things to fix 1985 Porsche 928

Well , I m back with a whole new set of problems. with my 1985 928 S 5 speed. I could not get may gas gauge to work, New sending unit installed removed dash cluster cleaned contacts cked grounds. decided to ground out gauge sender and it go's to 3/4 tank. Kant believe new sender to be defective. removed sending unit bench cked with ohm meter , (after I removed shipping pin.. I was quite sure that was why float did not operate. ) Anyway I got a reading of 5.5 ohms and turned upside down I get .2 ohms I reinstall unit Co guage operation i have a 1/2 of tank of gas in the tank. so i should have gotten something on the gauge? Cannot figure this thing out.. Even jaguars do't mess with my head like this car. also I removed the gauge cluster again now tach is working again and Amp gauge which always worked is now dead no light no nothing.. Temp gauge is now also working. When I turn on the key before starting I get NO warning lights they were always intermittent but no compleatly gone. I also have interior light we door light anyway top cabin light is not coming on I have to ck the buylb

Check if the top cabin light wires are shorting against the roof.

Yep. Frequent short location. Give the connections a spray of deoxit, clean em with a brush if they need it, tidy up the female connectors with heat shrink if not already done so.

You might also have a problem with the circuit board for the dash pod and one or all of the connectors. The contact wires can separate from the plastic carrier at the 3 multi-plug locations and then not make the contacts in the plugs when put back togehter. the plastic tabs that the circuit board wraps around at the plugs are frequently broken off which makes fitting them back together with all the contacts working quite difficult. Also, if one of the little metal contacts that is part of the membrane comes loose and gets folded back, you can lose the 12v supply to some or a lot of the circuit board. Of all the "why did they do it this way" on my '79, the pod circuit board and plug design is the one that I think has the highest chance of not going back together correctly and having some things work and others not.
