Tried to start her again today and there was no start at all. The key thing of note is the temperature, as it is 34 deg, F, so just above freezing. It has been below freezing fo a while. When the temps get this low, the car does not start at all. I have to figure out how ambient temperature could impact the starting of the car and possibly the idle.

I have a theory to test...
  • I know the car does not start in the cold and has a rough time starting even when mild, but does start. Warmer weather = easier starts
  • Car idles low and poorly when running, and it is slow to respond and pops as throttle is applied
  • I have ruled out the battery issues since the starter and battery have functioned well recently
  • The poor engine performance started before I replaced the ignition harness back in the summer
  • If i remember correctly, I had taken my car in to a local shop to have the ac looked at and they kept it overnight since the didn't get a chance to work on it. That night a crazy storm came by and flooded the area and even some of the workshop. The shop claimed that they got the cars inside. When I tried to pick it up was when the starting issues started.
Could it be that water has gotten into the gas tank enough to cause this issue? It gets worse as it gets cold and below freezing which could explain the non-start.

The last time I filled up the engine was in early August.

I may try to either drain the tank and refill with fresh gas or add a drier additive to see if that makes any difference.
