Intensive Washer Button MIA

Intensive Washer Button MIA
I have an 87 automatic S4 and I knew the hose wiring for my windshield washers were messed up by some previous owner. One connection was completely broken and I saw that in the hood there was just one hose and it was clear rubber. So someone had been in there at some point. No big deal. I restrung the whole thing with the correct hoses, Y connections, through connections. I cleaned and refilled my reservoirs and was ready to test. I had to break out the owners manual since I realized I don't remember actually ever trying the intensive washer. I go to press the button under the dash and all there is is a rubber gromit! No switch!
So did my 928 never have an intensive washer? Why is there a reservoir for it? It's got electrical, etc. or did someone pull it out? The rubber stopper even has an official 928 part number on it, so I assume it has always been that way.
How hard is it to add the switch back in? I've removed and serviced the pod before, so I'm not afraid of that.
Any other tips since I seem to be an idiot for not noticing this earlier?
Thanks

I think black with a violet stripe wires are for the illumination circuit. Turn on the headlight switch and see if that one then shows 12 volts with the red lead of your meter going to it and the black to a known good ground. Maybe someone mixed up a couple wires under there.

Ok, this is a really obvious question, but I'm going to ask it anyway.
Which side is the "grommet that replaces button" on?
The intensive washer is on the right. Euro cars have the same button on the left side. It's the odo reset. That's on the dash for the US cars, because they don't have a rear fog light switch.

Quick question while we're on the topic of intensive washer buttons...
The PO disabled the intensive washer but left the button. The button doesn't have any resistance when you push it, it just flops up and down. Is that right, or will it need to replaced it if I ever get around to restoring the intensive system?

Radio shack sells a 2 pack of push button switches that will fit right into that OEM hole - one is black and the other is red. Hold them in for the switch to be on and release for it to turn off, just like the OEM function. If your switch doesn't have resistance in the button, the internal spring is probably shot or missing.
Here's a pic of the under-dash trim panel I made and the Radio Shack black push-bottom switch is installed in the upper right, but a little hard to make out at this photo resolution.
