I just stumbled on this thread by looking at Google images for setup, I like the setup location at back of the hatch. The only thing I would do different is a full enclosed box which would run the length of the toolkit which would include the bazooka at one end and a toolkit compartment at the other
Yes thank you Blake, that is another option I am considering. I have ordered my clearance item brand new at Bestbuy and should be delivered next week, the bazooka 10 inch 100 watt sub at a price of $ 39.95 Canadian and will try that first. If it doesn't work out I can easily turn around and sell the bazooka for $ 90 Canadian and purchase a proper subwoofer.
I did not have much money to spend on the non necessary subwoofer (nice to have though) so that is my plan.
Also tonight I will be going to see Bertrand's setup to hear the sound and see the setup to help me see and hear the difference, to help me make a proper decision once. He has the pioneer 8 inch ts-w50a I think.

Reason: Forgot something
I had a bazooka tube (older one with internal amp) in my 85. I used a bungee cord and strapped it into the passenger side of the rear hatch. Didn't take much space at all and worked great!

Thank you Ted, that is an idea, but I don't want it too visible and since I have no "blind screen" yet, it will be visible. That is on my wish list, the one which is sold with the logo from a fellow rennlister, China.... something.
I bought one of these for my Acura TSX from amazon the 10" version. It starting clipping after about a minute or 2. I really couldn't hear or feel the base in the limited time it did work. I adjusted the gains to where it sounded the best but perhaps its better suited for a hatchback. I sent it back.

Heres my current setup. I have the Alpine amp with builtin crossovers and Low Pass settings which really makes the bazooka punch. The amp fits in the tire well with the spare in it.

My setup for now. It works good, but the real test will be when we go to Virginia for Frenzy with all our luggage ! I love the sound, it completes the system quite nicely.
I see you've already found the setup you like, but perhaps someone else may look in and benefit from the thread, so here's what I ended up with.
I had a low profile BossBass 800 that provided acceptable bass and rounded out the sound in the car. It was "OK" in that it used almost no space at all, was easy to install, had really good adaptability through adjustments, and you could tell that there was a sub in the car. Not punchy. A little muddy if ya listen close, and on some passages the bass would "roll in" rather "snap in" ...poor attack.
then I went to the bazooka 10. louder, but took too much room. OK adjustability (is that even a word?), but seemed to roll rather than snap. but seemed efficient in that it was very loud, but for my tastes and music, not as accurate as I'd like.
Now I've found what I think suits me and the car. It's the infinity Basslink. A 10" with a 10" passive. generally, I'm not in favor of the passive radiator thing, but this one sounds tight, as loud as I want, as punchy as $200 will buy, takes less room than the Bazooka, a little more than the Low Profile BossBass, and has all the adjustments one needs to fit it into the venue. I think this is the one.
Ya always have to consider space in the 928. I hate making any mod that "costs" in other areas. In this case, I dont wanna loose my storage space for tools and oil and so on, but I don't want to loose my luggage space either. this seems to work for me...so far. Looks nice in the car, sounds great, accurate, and easy to wire and place (has brackets to sit like I have it, or up on it's edge).

Anyway...that's it.
Thank you Patman, that looks good. It does take less space then the 10 inch bazooka, indeed. Yes the bazooka doesn't have the same bass response as a normal sub in a wooden enclose, but for the price it will do now until I can come up with some extra cash to purchase a good amp and then make a customized low profile box or even a fiberglass enclosure which goes across the toolkit in the hatch with either of these configurations. 2 x 6 inch, 1 x 8 inch or 1 x 10 inch. And this fiberglass enclosure would include a compartment to put in some extra tools in case of emergency.
I will work with my son, since he has done some fiberglass enclosures before and we will design something to use up the almost dead space at the rear of the hatch since it's not very high and cover it in the same carpeting that the car uses to make it as unseen as I can. I don't want prying eyes on that to decide to break the hatch glass to get to that ! No invitations.
I know that currently it is a big sign saying " look there is a sub at your disposal " I don't like it, but it has to do for now.
I hope your using your cargo cover to hide that basslink. The 8" bazooka with a real amp hits pretty hard. In addition my alpine head unit has a subwoofer adjustment which really sets the right amount of bass. Those factors all in give me the right amount of ooomff.
