Default Help please my stop lights will not work 1987 s4

I noticed that when I turn my headlights on, the rear tail lights do not come on. In addition, none of the side markers illuminate as well. The emergency flasher, turn signals and reverse lights all work. I tried new bulbs, but no luck! The brake lights work when the brake pedal is pressed. What doesn't work is when I turn the headlights on, the tail lights do not illuminate. Any help is appreciated!!

check the fuses use deoxit.

NOTE brake lights not working indicate the plug for the light sensing computer on the end of the passenger parcel tray has not been plugged in

Default Inoperative side marker & tail Lights 1987 s4

All lights work on the car with the exception of the side marker lights which are completely dead. The brake or stop light works when the brake pedal is pressed. So what doesn't work are the side marker lights at all and the tail light that should illuminate when you turn your headlights on. The emergency flasher/ turn signal/reverse light all work. Just no side markers at all and tail light that should illuminate when the headlights are on. Any suggestions are very appreciated.

Thank you!!!

are you saying each front and back side marker is out or just the rear side markers?
if just the rears then clean the white connectors that lie in the rear edge of the hatch floor these run power to the side markers use deoxit.
If it is both front and back side markers replace the side marker fuses,
replace all 4 of the bulbs with the same brand and 5Volt bulbs

Do you have a 'bulb out' / tail light light warning illuminated on your dash ?

Default Tail lights out

I am not a prankster! I have always has a bulb out warning since I got the car from the previous owner. He told me he had replaced the socket and caused the warning. Tail lights worked until recently. All side markers are out and the tail lights as well. No 12 volt to the tail light socket. Could it be the bulb check unit? How do I remove the passenger side panel to access this bulb unit?

That's what that little black box is! Man, these cars are pretty complex. There are connectors and computers tucked all over the place. I just took my dash, console and pod out to send to Robert Budd and wondered what that was. Thanks!

Is the bulb check unit by the fuses on the floorboard passenger side? How do I identify it and then test it?
