Sisters
I decided to save another one yesterday. Last Saturday I was looking for parts for my red '79 but when I got to the seller's house he showed me a fairly solid, complete '78 just begging to be put back on the road. We tried to get it running on the spot but the fuel pump was making odd noises and the car would only sputter but the engine wanted to run. Since I don't need a 2nd 928 I told him that I would have to pass and started for home.
About 5 miles away the seller called and made an offer that I couldn't refuse and I didn't. Yesterday with the help of AAA my brother and I drove up to pick up the car. I picked up a new fuel pump and had another running 928 5-speed and still need to rebuild the transmission in my red one.

That's got a pretty neat patina, at least from here. I'd be tempted to clean the exterior an squirt it with some matte clear right over as-is to stabilize, and let it be. And maybe just delete rear wiper. Good score with the phone dials! Interesting that it has the headlight adjustment but is US- are all the early cars so-equipped?
Wow, great score (assuming the price was right of course). I love the interior and would get those seat bottoms off to Rob Budd for some tweaking.
SMT - that **** showing a headlight adjustment just might have been a convenient replacement from some point back, since with the US spec cars, that **** is for the radio speaker front to rear fader.

The seats will be coming out, there is definately some tweeking to do. My brother has decided that it will be his car and will be re-sprayed the original brown and seats restored to original.
The price was definately right. I wont say what I paid but the wheels are worth more than I paid for the whole car.

Congratulations and it is in very nice shape. From the air vents, may be a very early model '78. I tell people that the '78 I just acquired is cheaper than an MacBook. Good to hear that your car was acquired for less than the wheels! I will try that one...
Looks like a decent start, interiors pretty nice and the rest looks doable.
Out of curiosity....what's the vin number (last four digits).
So, originally...was the car brown? I'm dismantling a 78, black sprayed over brown, so if you need something...give me a shout.
Brian.

Oh come on, don't be afraid to say the price! I paid $850 for #30. Probably too much based in her condition, but I have less than 2k in her now, and she runs great....not a driver yet, but definitely worth what I have in it so far.
Great catch! Love the OB's. Keep a thread going!

$500 and she's running. There is an odd vibration as RPMs go up and the clutch is almost gone but I can move her around without pushing.
Here's an odd "feature." Somehow the instrument pod was re-wired with the tach and speedo flipped. As the engine revs, the speedometer moves. Can't say how that happened but it should be an easy enough fix.

My brother was visiting from out of town and helped with the car. It appears that he will be the eventual owner of #227. We agreed that it will be repaired with minimal changes from original before it makes the trip to Minnesota. The paint is bad enough that it will get a respray but will retain the original brown. The interior will be repaired but the extent of the repairs is still an unknown.
I'll start a new thread to log the progress.

My parts car has a good front DS fender and bumper...if you are interested once it makes its way to MN...let me know and l'll shoot you some pictures. Was planning a bird hunting trip to MN this fall anyway, so it might work out...shipping wise.
Good luck, with #227...and old red was happy to hear her sister is alive and well.
Brian.
