Actually, it's the black thing that the blue thing holds to the car that covers and protect the jump post. When you order a jump post cover, you get the black thing, not the blue thing.
It's really good that you asked. Who knows how many other folks out there have been wondering what a jump post cover is?

My car had the cap but not the cover. I didn't realize I was missing anything until someone pointed it out. It's an easy mistake... And an easy fix.

Anderson swapped the blue thing for a black thing on the Cobalt car, I think it cost him the concours.

I have the black cover. not the blue cap. I suppose I should get my hands on a copy of the manual.

Without the cover, water entering the seam between the hood and the panel will track down and cascade on you crucial pin connector at the hot post.

Which raises an interesting question. On what years was it a blue thing? My GTS has a black thing and I know it's original.

I'll have to check my 87 and 89 to see - memory says the 87 is a (very grubby) blue cap, and 89 is black.
