Default Brake Lights out on 83 928S

I've lost my brake lights.. and have my stop light indicator on. From reading the shop manuals it appears that it is a problem with the Bulb Check Control in the Central Warning Unit.

They also show a part 928.641.610.00 that can be used in emergencies. It appears to be a simple shorting plug. Do you know what pins it Shorts. I'd like to be able to use this as a test to verify that I'm on the right track as well as a fix until I can locate a new unit.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

1) Turn the ignition switch on.
2) Press the brake pedal firmly.
3) Check for 12 vdc on the black/red wire on terminal S6. This is the second terminal up on the right side of the 6th plug from the right end on the bottom of the central power panel. If there is no power, repeat the check on the black/red wire on F7. This is the next to top terminal on the right side of the 6th plug from the left end. If there is no power, check the black wire on F6, the terminal under F7.

If there is no power on F6, the problem is likely to be fuse #7.

If there is power on F6, but not on F7, the problem is likely to be the brake light switches on the bottom of the master cylinder.

Do a search on this subject on this forum - it has been covered recently.

Thanks for the Help.. Actually... found voltage on S6 and thought everything was just fine... Drove around for about an hour and the problem reappeared.

Repeated the process.. this time.. no voltage... found voltage on F6.. but not F7. Pulled off the connectors on the master cylinder.. and discover the rear one had a small amount of brake fluid in it...

Thanks again!

Chuck
