Trying to solve the Herbie syndrome I pulled the double relay for the lights to clean the contacts, the contacts were spotless , even under magnification but cleaned them anyway. Then I spotted what I believe is a resistor -black with 1 silver band- and the body is completely broken in two although the innards appear to be intact. The two wire legs coming out of each end are rigidly fixed in the circuit board and there is no discolouration as in a voltage spike. Since I don't have my replacement light sw. installed I can't check out the relay but it looks as if it came from the relay mfr. broken in two -do you think I'd get a refund - JUST KIDDING

Deb,
Black with a silver stripe is a diode. It may still work fine. I am assuming you pulled the cap off the relay to clean the internal contacts? I did the dame thing when my lights acted up (lights popped up, but wouldn't go on) - it wasn't the relay internal contacts it was the sockets on the relay board that needed cleaning.
