Interesting - transmission Shifting Change Gears How to get it to shift properly
#3
I must have a special transmission, I leave my selector in 2nd and it shifts thru all four gears at about 5700 rpm's. Also by 4th gear I'm doing closer to 150 mph than 150 km/h (actually about 120mph).
On the other hand I'm always happy to see anyone go to the trouble of putting a video on Rennlist.

Dan,
I don't remember that name here but, of course, I don't know everybody on RL!
Other's may know the guy.
Charley,
If in 2nd it goes up to fourth gear, two things, like you said you have a special transmission or you have transmission problem!
I would say the second is mostly the case...
And when the guy in the vid says that in "D", he floors it and it starts in second and goes up to fourth, mine doesn't do that.
In "D", depress at about two third, it starts in second gear but quickly downshift in first and then to second and third and finnaly in fourth. Not at red line either.
Maybe it's different for other MY.
Mine is an '91 S4.
Thanks André for this vid.
ASAIC, our automatic trans. cars can only be driven one way.
"Manually" that is.
If you're driving these car in "D" all the time, you're missing most of the fun!
And the nice thing with auto. trans. is when you just want to relax and let the car do the gear shift job, it does it for you in a very good way.
You can't do that in a 5 gear manual trans.

Sorry but I absolutely detest the sounds of an automatic changing gears, reminds me of the airport shuttle bus sliding into gear. Was riding next to a Ferrari just the other day and the idiot was punching the paddle shifters up and down in moderate freeway traffic holding it in lower gears just to hear the car blip the throttle for downshifts and yes he had his window down but we were doing all of 50 mph ! My turbo six speed Passat had no problem keeping up !! and I was getting about 40 mpg

Having the option to use it as a "manual" transmission is a nice bonus, much more fun. But as Bertrand said, it's nice some days to just take a long relaxing drive in a GT car and leave it in D.
