Wiring disaster

Wiring disaster
With most of the interior panels out (thank you to all those who have gone before me and removed them and documented it) I can see a lot of wiring runs. I'm going to assume that any wiring in the spare tire well would have to be aftermarket. It looks like the remnants of a car phone system. Tucked behind the panel that holds the tools is an alarm system (Carbine). No idea if it works or not, haven't gotten that far. Personally, I would just rip it all out, but I'm not sure how the wiring interacts with the factory wiring. My fear is that it will immobilize the car at an inopportune time. Lots of duct tape holding all the wiring for the phone, nice install. The alarm system is just stuffed in there and not fastened down at all. Has anybody had any experience with this brand of alarm?

Got any pics? The stock wiring back in that area is pretty straight-forward, so it *should* be pretty easy to determine what needs to stay versus what needs/can go.
Also - the wiring diagram for your model can be an immense help in cases like this. Might want to pick it up.
Finally - it would be helpful to the others (as I'm still a n00b) if you add your year / model to your sig so we all know what you are dealing with.

Thanks for the input. Is there a preferred manual for the 928?
I'll have to look into and see how to put my model and year into my profile......a 1978 928.
It's a little to dark to take a pic right now, but I'll snap a few tomorrow when I get back into it.

The manuals are available on-line so search.
I've removed a couple of alarms. Don't remove anything until you understand what it's doing. The important function is to stop the car from being started. Usually this is done by having the "start" wire from the key run through the module. Or the wire to the starter itself. After that the rest of the wiring for the alarm and door switches and the like can be pulled out.

I was chasing a lean problem, turns out the fuel pump wasn't getting enough voltage. After chasing the problem for days I found that an aftermarket alarm had been installed and then removed and the wires left behind to run the fuel pump were undersized. Long story short, cut ONE wire, start the car, make sure everything works, then go to the next. If you don't remove more than one wire at a time you'll always know which wire it was that caused the problem. It took me most of the day but it was better than the alternative.
