Default !981 Convertible at August Mecum Auction

Any guesses what this one will go for?

Being an old and bald guy, convertibles no longer hold any magic for me. And I prefer the lines and looks of my 1981 coupe. But this does look like one of the better conversions.

MUCH cleaner mirror area work, but missing a functional back seat, doesn't make it a successful conversion in my eyes.

Nice touch, parking it in front of a boat ramp.

Very clean underhood!

I don't see where the $250,000+ extra for this car went.

Exclusivity?

I wager it goes for $35,000

what I like about this one is that they did it right at the b pillar - it does not look like the roof was just cut off. The lines flow straight along the door edge all the way back thru the trunk area. Good execution.

What was done to allow hood to be raised to vertical position?

I wonder if this is the same Carelli convertible that was on eBay a few months ago with a BIN of $65,000. I much prefer the setup of my Spyder that keeps the functional rear seats - so do my 7 & 10 year old. My supercharged Spyder project will be 90% complete after tomorrow with the final 10% being the Z06 6-speed transmission that Carl is installing next week in WI.

OK $313,000 in 1981 is $851,635 in todays money.....that is simply absurd !

Didn't that red convertible sold for around 35k on ebay in April/May?

I just purchased this one. Its a fully four seater, build original as an 928 in 10/79. Runs and drives fantastic but will need to convert back to flag mirrors and phone dial wheels.

Sorry about the small cell phone pics in the garage, but finished her up pretty late and missed my window for outside photos. I'll give her a proper bath when I return and shoot some good outside photos with my DSLR.

Til then, enjoy !
