Default Center console trim piece

I need to remove the trim piece below the AC vent so I can remove and repair the AC control head.

In the WSM, it shows the piece being in the shape of an "H", looks to be two piece separate from the trim piece that surrounds the ashtray and windiw switches and easily removable.

But on my 82 the trim piece looks to be in one section that extends from below the AC vent all the way down to the window switches.

How does one remove the trim piece to access the screws that secure the control head? Do you have to take the whole console out?

Are there pictures anywhere showing the removal for an OB as the WSM must show a later model than mine.

Thanks!

IIRC, in my 82 I worked the trim up from around the shift ****, carefully working upward as to not break the vinyl/foam away from the wire underneath.

You were correct! Started down at the shift opening and with a little patience the whole thing came out without a problem.

I think the biggest problem was the trim piece sticking to the center console with years of crud build up.

Thanks again.
